The First Chance (Niall and twin Payne's Liam and Leeroy

The First Game

A/N This is a few weeks later. School has been going for about 2 weeks and this is the first football game of the season.

Liam's POV

Today is the day of the first game of the season, its going to be a great game. The team this year is really strong and fairly young. I mean most of us are in our first or second year with a few in the third and fourth. I think this year we are only going to loose 2 people and the year after that 2. Stepping into the school in our football warmups everyone can see that the energy is running high for everyone. Especially us guys on the team. This first game is on our turf, its the place we know best. I spot Niall all up in his warm ups. I know he's an amazing player but I'm not sure if he'll get to start in the game. He's been working really hard the past two weeks at practice to earns starting position. I'm just wondering if coach will start him. He beat out others who were in the team last year and we were good last year, lost no players just gained new ones. There is  a sudden movement on my left and I turn to see one of my teammates Drey on the other side of me. He smiles before saying, "Ready for the game today? It's our turf, we need to own the game tonight." I smile and just nod, not in the mood to really talk. If I did talk it would be to Lee or Larry or Niall. I've been able to get closer to him because of practice. Well, that and the fact that Lee and I have been finding him during lunch and sitting with him. Niall usually sits with Haz and Lou but there are times that he sits with some of the nerds because he is one as well.

            Soon enough it's the end of the school day and we are getting hyped for the game. I see Louis and Niall heading for the field and join them. We are watching the girls game first. The girls are good, but I'm not sure if they have what it takes to make it far enough to go to the play offs. The girls are just warming up and the boys team is required to watch the girls game. We have an exchange student from America who says that girls sports there don't have a lot of people coming out and supporting. Here we are all about supporting all the sports. Yes, us boys have more enthusiasm during the games but that's cause it's much more intense. The three of us join the rest of the team. I spot Drey, Adam, Hayden and Mercury , Murk for short. They are the ones who will be leaving us in the next two years. Hayden and Murk are the oldest and the ones leaving us when they graduate and are the captains of the team. The girls game is about to start and its going to be interesting to say the least. It's half time of the girls game and the girls are up by a single goal. I spot Leeroy before heading into the locker room once the second half starts for the girls. 

        The locker room is quite loud as we are getting into our jerseys and getting cleats, shinguards and socks on. Once we are all ready we gatehr around the coach to see who is starting and to get the last minute game plan. "All right, listen up boys. The starters for today are as follows. Our two forwards are Hayden and Adam. Midfield is Louis, Liam and Mason. Defense is Niall, Devon, Alex and Dustin. Mercury you are keeper. Every one got that?" There's a bunch of yeahs or got its. I can't help the smile that's on my face when I heard that Niall is starting today. He's really got to prove himself, I know that he can do it. I know that we are starting out strong so we can see what needs to be changed. Soon we are out watching the last of the girls game which our girls managed to score two more goals effectively winning the game. We stand on either side of the entrance back into the locker room to congratulate the girls on their W. Before stepping on the field I spot Harry and Leeroy sitting in the stands, both here to support their boys. Lee and I already invited Haz, Lou and Ni to our house after the game to spend the night and hopefully celebrate our victory.

      The game is starting and all that is on my mind is score, pass,run!!! I got the ball and passed it to Hayden and he took a  shot and scored. We were up a goal. We all ran into a group hug before getting back into our positions. I see Niall looking a little sweaty a little later in the game. He is doing good at defense, but he's clearly not comfortable back there. By half time the score is 2-0. When we get into the locker room our coach changes us the order of things slightly.  Adam is now at defense while Niall is the other forward. This is going to be interesting. I wonder what coach is trying to do. It's clear right after kick off what he was doing. Lou had the ball and passed it to Niall who looked like he was going to shoot but instead passed it over to Hayden to take a shot but he missed. The ball bounced off the other teams' keeper and Niall was there to put it in the goal. This game was rough. The other team ended up scoring 3 goals and tied us up. There was 30 seconds left in the game and we had to do something. I had the ball and no chance to take a shot. I saw that Niall was open and passed him the ball. He swung his leg hard and connected with the ball and sent it sailing towards the goal. It was like time stood still for a moment the ball was in the air and then it was in the goal just as the whistle blew ending the game. I was ecstatic as was Louis and the rest of the team. I looked to the stands before running into our group hug to see Lee and Haz jumping up and down with excitement with the first win of the season. It was a great game and I'm positive we can make it to the championship.
