Chapter 3 - The New Kid

Quinn arrived back to school the next day only to be stopped by Santana. "I hope you're happy," Santana said. "What do you mean?" Quinn asked. "Puckerman's already in Figgins' office I'm sure you have something to do with it," Santana huffed as Quinn made a face. She had nothing to do with whatever was going on with Puck. "Why are you blaming me?" Quinn asked. "Oh please. The only reason he went all knight in shining armor against that Jacob kid was because he's hung up on you and quite frankly I don't like that," Santana said folding her arms. Quinn shook her head "Whatever you have against me, don't. I told Puck not to get into a fight over me. If you don't believe me it's fine but what I'm telling you is the truth," Quinn said as she walked past Santana who scoffed annoyed.

Glee Rehearsals were that morning where the Club had decided to practice and perform 'Empire State of Mind' by Jay Z and Alicia Keys in front of the whole school. They were trying to recruit new members to join the New Directions and they hoped their performance would attract some new members. Once the song finished, they were left with no one applauding, feeling incredibly down on themselves.

"Well that was a bust," Mercedes said shaking her head as the girls changed out of their costumes and back into their normal clothes. "Definitely," Quinn agreed although she had noticed a cute blonde boy tapping his foot along to the music. She had recognized him from football practice since her spot was near the football field. She made a mental note to talk to Finn about the kid to see if he would join the club. Quinn was back in her white dress as she headed to class.

Quinn entered the spanish classroom as she sat by Finn. "Can we talk?" Quinn asked as Finn made an unsure face. "Umm sure I guess..." Finn said as Quinn smiled a bit. "I'm not going to bite. Relax," Quinn said jokingly as Finn sighed. "Look, we just haven't talked much since you know...last year. If you're trying to get me to dump Rachel I'm not going to," Finn said. "What?" Quinn made a face "I came to talk to you about Glee Club, not your relationship with Rachel." "Oh..." Finn said awkwardly "What about Glee Club?" "I saw that new kid who's on the football team tapping his foot when we were performing," Quinn said as Finn nodded. "Oh yeah I noticed him too. He's actually really strong on the field," Finn said as Quinn smiled. "Well what I was thinking is maybe you could talk to the guy, let him know he's welcome in Glee Club," Quinn shrugged as Finn seemed to think about it. Maybe what Quinn was saying wasn't such a bad idea. "Yeah....we do need a new member. I'll talk to him. Thanks," Finn smiled as Quinn got up and went back to her usual seat feeling satisfied that she had helped the club get its 12th member.

After school Quinn headed home like always to take care of Beth. She was definitely concerned about Wednesday when Glee Club practice typically had it's one afternoon session. Her mom had reassured her that it would be fine but Quinn couldn't help but feel guilty for not coming home to Beth straight away. "Hey you," Quinn smiled as she picked up Beth who was playing with her toys and smiling at Quinn. "Ma," Beth grinned as Quinn got emotional. Beth had been babbling for awhile but this was the first time she said something close to a word. "Mommy's here," Quinn said holding Beth close as she continued to babble and play, unaware of how much one little sound meant to Quinn.

It was then time for Wednesday afternoon which was when Glee Club had it's after school practice. The cute blond boy Quinn had noticed walked into the choir room. "Guys, this is Sam Evans and he's going to be our newest member of the Glee Club," Mr. Schue announced as everyone clapped. "Glad you came Sam," Finn grinned. "Thanks Finn," Sam said as he then took his seat. "Guys we have all 12 members we need for Sectionals, but before we go to rehearse together, Sam is going to audition for all of us," Mr. Schue told the class as Quinn couldn't help but be intrigued what kind of voice would Sam have. The New Directions made their way to the auditorium when Sam was onstage with his guitar.

"Hey guys, I'm Sam Evans and I'll be singing 'Cooler Than Me'," Sam said into the microphone as he began to strum his guitar to sing. "If I could write you a song to make you fall in love. I would already have you up under my arm. I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this. But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me. You got designer shades just to hide your face and you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me and you never say hey, or remember my name and it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me," Sam sang as Quinn couldn't help but be mesmerized by Sam's voice and performance. As he continued to perform the other members of the club cheered for him as Mr. Schue grinned. "Welcome to the Glee Club," Mr. Schue told Sam as the New Directions cheered, happy to have gotten their 12th member.
