The next rehearsal in Glee Club was all about duets. "Who can tell me what duet is?" Mr. Schue asked as Brittany grinned. "A blanket," she said. "A duet is when two voices join to become one. Great duets are like a great marriage. The singers complement each other, push each other to be better. Now you might be wondering why I have the hat of fate here with me again? Well once again your partners for this assignment will be chosen by fate," Mr. Schue said as most of the Glee Clubbers cringed, the last time their partners had been arranged by chance most of the partnerships fizzled out. "Alright who wants to go first?" Mr. Schue asked as the New Directions exchanged looks. "I'll go first you bunch of wimps," Puck said rolling his eyes as he drew the first name. "Kurt," Puck said as he didn't look happy. He really wanted to get Quinn for the assignment but the fates were not in his favor. Mercedes was next and got Finn. It was then Santana's turn and she once again got Brittany. "This is amazing! The fates so love us," Brittany grinned as Santana hugged Brittany. Tina was up and was paired with her ex, Artie. Mike went up and got paired with Rachel. "Which leaves Quinn and Sam as our final duets pairing," Mr. Schue said as Sam shot Quinn a smile who smiled back. Quinn was paired with Artie the last time and that had gone well she didn't know a lot about Sam but she was hoping to learn more about him.
"I guess we're partners," Sam said as he sat with Quinn. "Yeah I guess so. I'm Quinn by the way," Quinn smiled introducing herself. "I know...I mean...Finn just told me is all," Sam said as Quinn laughed a bit, finding Sam's awkwardness with her quite charming. "So umm what do you want to sing?" Sam said trying to change the subject "I don't really know a lot of duets but you look smart so I think you'd be better at picking a song." Quinn smiled a bit. "Well I think our voices would go well together. How about 'Lucky'," Quinn suggested. "I can actually play that on my guitar," Sam grinned as he began to strum the chords to 'Lucky' as Quinn smiled a bit listening to Sam play.
The bell then rang as Quinn grabbed her things. "We need to rehearse. Do you think you could come by to my house after school?" Sam asked Quinn who sighed knowing she was going to have to explain her situation once again to someone who might not understand. "I don't know if I can," Quinn said as Sam looked confused. "Why not? I mean you have time for Glee Club right?" Sam asked as Quinn made a face. "Of course I do. I just have to check with my mom," Quinn said honestly. "Oh. Okay," Sam said shrugging it off seeing to be okay with that answer. "Talk to you later," Quinn said as she headed out of the choir room and dialed her mom's number as quickly as she could.
"Quinnie is everything alright?" Judy asked worriedly. "Everything is fine mom. I wanted to ask you something," Quinn said. "Ask away," Judy said. "Our assignment in Glee Club this week is duets which means I'm going to have to practice with my partner," Quinn said biting her lip. "Doesn't everyone know about your situation?" Judy asked. "All but our newest member who I happened to get paired up with," Quinn sighed. "Tell him to come over here," Judy said. "Really? You'd be okay with that?" Quinn asked. "Of course. I do have to go into work once you get home but as long as you can tend to Beth while you rehearse I'm sure everything would work out," Judy said as Quinn seemed to agree, even though she was slightly nervous to tell Sam what she went through. "Thanks mom," Quinn said. "You're welcome," Judy smiled as Quinn hung up, concerned about how Sam was going to react to her life.
Quinn saw Sam in the hallway. "I can't come over but you're welcome to come to my house," Quinn said. "Okay. I mean I don't know where anything is around here but I'll be there," Sam said as Quinn wrote her address down and handed it to him. "Cool. I'll see you after school," Sam smiled as he walked off as Quinn held her breath wondering if inviting Sam over was such a good idea.
Quinn had settled Beth down for her afternoon nap when there was a knock at the door. "Hey," Quinn whispered. "Hi," Sam smiled before asking "Why are we whispering?" "There's a reason I couldn't come over to your house," Quinn said quietly as she motioned to the monitor. "Aww you watch your baby sister after school that's cool," Sam smiled whispering as Quinn bit her lip. Explaining this to him was going to be a lot harder than she thought. "Not exactly," Quinn whispered as Sam looked confused. "Beth is my daughter. I had her last year," Quinn explained as Sam's eyes grew wide. "I was not expecting that..." Sam said honestly as Quinn sighed. "I made a mistake last year. I got drunk on wine coolers and I ended up pregnant. I can't say I'm unhappy because Beth is the best thing in my life," Quinn said honestly as Sam smiled a bit at her. "I don't judge you or anything. You must have gone through enough last year," Sam said honestly. "Like you wouldn't believe," Quinn sighed as she and Sam sat down.
"The Glee Club knows about her. That's why Mr. Schue is kind of lenient on me if I miss a rehearsal," Quinn said honestly as Sam nodded. "I can understand. So your parents help you out with her?" Sam asked. "My mom does. My dad isn't in the picture anymore. He kicked me out of the house when he found out I was pregnant," Quinn said as Sam put a supportive arm around her. "I'm so sorry," Sam said as Quinn shrugged. "It's all in the past now. I'm just focused on giving her the best life I can," Quinn said honestly. Sam couldn't help but feel somewhat in awe of Quinn, even though she had a baby in high school she was making sure the child was cared for and she was working towards their future. "Do you want to wait to rehearse until she's up or..." Sam asked. "Actually it'd be better if we rehearse while she's sleeping," Quinn said honestly. "As you wish," Sam smiled as the two began to rehearse.
A few hours into rehearsal Quinn heard Beth crying on the monitor. "I'll be right back," she assured Sam who waited patiently for her. "Hi baby," Quinn smiled picking Beth up who whimpered a bit. "Let's get you changed," Quinn said as she put Beth on the changing table changing her diaper and putting a clean outfit on which helped Beth settle down. "That's a good girl," Quinn smiled as she kissed Beth's forehead before carrying her downstairs.
"Wow....she looks so much like you," Sam said in awe as Quinn put Beth down with her toys. "I get that a lot," Quinn smiled a bit as she then sat with Sam "Where were we?" "The music isn't going to be too much for her is it?" Sam asked concerned as Quinn smiled a bit. "Not at all. I sing to her all the time," Quinn said honestly as Sam seemed relieved as they went back to rehearsing as Beth soon was clapping her hands along to the music. "I'm guessing Beth likes our performance," Sam laughed. "I think you're right," Quinn laughed as well as Sam put his guitar away. "Thanks for letting me come over, Quinn, and introducing me to your little mini me. She's adorable," Sam said. "Of course," Quinn smiled as she walked Sam to the door. "I'll see you in Glee Club," Sam smiled. "See you in Glee Club," Quinn smiled as she waved goodbye to Sam as he drove off. She couldn't help but feel something a little too familiar, was she falling for Sam? Only time would tell.
