Chapter 11 - Sectionals (Part 1)

Ever since they got back from Thanksgiving Break, the New Directions were hard at work on their set list for sectionals. Mr. Schuester decided to give others the chance to shine in having the leads which did not go over well with Rachel who was used to having the lead.

"What do you mean I'm not getting a solo?" Rachel whined. "I mean that I've talked the talk about making everyone feel special but I haven't walked the walk," Mr. Schue said as Rachel scoffed. "I was thinking we could have a duet between Sam and Quinn to start us off." "Ken and Barbie!" Rachel exclaimed outraged as Quinn shot her a look. "You know you used to be sort of unlikable but now I feel like punching you every time you open your mouth. You've had every solo for the last year Rachel. It's time for someone else to shine," Quinn said as Rachel once again scoffed as the bell rang.

Sam approached Quinn. "I guess we're having the big duet for the competition," Sam grinned as Quinn nodded. "I guess so," Quinn smiled a bit. "You know, we're going to have to spend a lot of time together," Sam said as Quinn smiled. "Well it's a good thing we have lots of practice with that," Quinn chuckled as Sam kissed her. "See you after school," he smiled as he left Quinn to go to her next class.

Sam spent even more time than usual at the Fabray household as he and Quinn practiced their duet of "(I've Had) the Time Of my life" trying to perfect it for Sectionals, that is when they weren't interrupted by Beth.

Beth was 9 months old now and was starting to become more and more adventurous. While she enjoyed listening to Sam and Quinn perform if she saw something else that looked more interesting she would try to crawl off to get it. This interrupted Sam and Quinn's rehearsals more times than enough.

"Beth!" Quinn exclaimed seeing her tiny tot climbing the bookcase while they were supposed to be rehearsing. "I got her," Sam chuckled picking her up as Beth whined as Sam handed her to Quinn. Quinn sighed of relief "Thank you." "Hey anytime. She's getting to be quite the spider girl," Sam jokes as Quinn shook her head. "She knows she not supposed to climb," Quinn sighed as she shook her finger at Beth "No." "Yea!" Beth giggled. "Hey Beth listen to your mom. She's doing a lot for you," Sam scolded as Beth folded her arms annoyed. "Come let's play with your toys while mommy and Sam rehearse okay?" Quinn sighed guiding her daughter to the toys. "Kay!" Beth grinned as she began playing with her toys.

Quinn sighed frustrated. "Sorry about that," Quinn said. "You're doing the best you can. I know toddlers can be defiant. My brother and sister were like that when they were little," Sam offered supportively as Quinn hugged him tightly grateful for his support through all of this.

That Saturday was the Sectionals competition that the New Directions were working so hard on. Quinn couldn't help but be nervous backstage. This was the first time she had a huge solo during the competition. Besides that her mom was coming with Beth and she wanted to make her daughter proud. Sam approached a nervous looking Quinn backstage. "You okay?" He asked as Quinn shook her head. "I'm so nervous. I've never performed in front of a crowd as a soloist," Quinn said as Sam took her hand. "Look at me, if you ever get nervous or scared just know I'm right here to help you okay?" Sam said in a reassuring manner. "Okay," Quinn smiled as the New Directions were announced as Sam and Quinn began to perform walking through the crowd.

"Now I've had the time of my life. No, I've never felt like this before. Yes, I swear, it's the truth and I owe it all to you," Sam sang as he walked through the crowd as he gestured towards Quinn's entrance as Quinn walked out. "Cause I've had the time of my life and I owe it all to you," Quinn sang looking deep into Sam's eyes as she and Sam began walking down the aisle to get onstage. "I've been waiting for so long. Now I've finally found someone to stand by me," Sam sang. "We saw the writing on the wall as we felt this magical fantasy," Quinn sang. "Now with passion in our eyes. There's no way we could disguise it secretly," Sam and Quinn sang as they then met up "So we take each other's hand 'cause we seem to understand the urgency," Sam and Quinn sang holding hands. "Oh," Quinn sang. "Just remember," Sam sang. "You're the one thing," Quinn sang with the New Directions Girls. "I can't get enough of," Sam sang with the New Directions Boys. "I can't get enough of," the New Directions repeated. "So I'll tell you something," Quinn sang with the New Directions girls as she and Sam held each other close as the choreography called for. "This could be love," Quinn and Sam sang. "This could be love," the New Directions repeated. "Because," Sam and Quinn sang as they then faced out to the audience as they began to dance. "I've had the time of my life," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "No, I've never felt this way before," Sam and Quinn sang. "Never felt this way," the New Directions sang. "Yes, I swear, it's the truth," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "And I," Sam and Quinn sang. "Owe it all to you," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Hey, baby," Sam sang smiling at Quinn. "Hey, baby," Quinn sang smiling back at Sam as she then sang the next part "With my body and soul I want you more than you'll ever know." "So we'll," Sam sang. "Just let it go. Don't be afraid to lose control," Sam sang with the New Directions guys. "No," Sam sang. "Yes I know what's on your mind when you say," Quinn sang. ""Stay with me tonight"," Quinn sang with the New Directions Girls. "Stay with me. Just remember," Sam sang. "You're the one thing," Sam sang with the New Directions Guys. "I can't get enough of," Quinn sang with the New Directions Girls. "I can't get enough of," the New Directions repeated. "So I'll tell you something," Sam sang with the New Directions Boys. "This could be love," Sam and Quinn sang. "This could be love," the New Directions repeated. "Because," Sam and Quinn sang. "I've had," Mercedes sang. "I've had the time of my life," Quinn and Sam sang with the rest of the New Directions. "Yeah, yeah," Mercedes sang. "No, I've never felt this way before," Sam and Quinn sang. "Never felt this way," the New Directions repeated. "Yes, I swear, It's the truth," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "And I," Sam and Quinn sang. "Owe it all to you," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Cause I've," Sam and Quinn sang. "I've," the New Directions repeated. "Had," Sam, Quinn, and Mercedes sang. "The time of my life," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Yeah-ah!" Mercedes sang. "And I've searched through every open door," Sam and Quinn sang. "Every open door," the New Directions repeated. "Til I found the truth," Sam and Quinn sang. "It's the truth," Mercedes sang. "And I owe it all to you," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions as the New Directions did some background as Sam and Quinn once again took center stage holding hands. "Now I've," Sam sang. "I've," Quinn sang. "Had the time of my life. No, I never felt this way before," Sam sang. "Never felt this way," Quinn sang. "Yes, I swear, it's the truth and I owe it all to you," Sam sang. "Oh woah, woah, woah, woah, woah," the New Directions sang. "I've had," Quinn sang with Santana and Mercedes backing here. "The time of my life," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Of my life," Mercedes sang. "No, I've," Sam and Quinn sang. "Never felt this way before," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Never felt this way," Santana sang. "Yes, I swear," Sam and Quinn sang. "Yes, I swear," Mercedes sang. "It's the truth," Sam and Quinn sang. "It's the truth," Mercedes sang. "And I," Sam and Quinn sang. "Owe it all to you," Sam, Quinn, and Mercedes sang. "Cause I've had the time of my life," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Had the time of my life," Sam sang. "And I've," Quinn sang. "Searched through every open door," Sam and Quinn sang. "Every open door," the New Directions repeated. "Til I found," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "Til I found," Santana sang. "The truth," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "The truth," Mercedes sang. "And I owe it all to," Sam and Quinn sang with the New Directions. "You," Sam, Quinn, Santana, and Mercedes sang with the New Directions. "Oh woah-oh-oh-woah," Santana and Mercedes sang with the New Directions. "Now I've," Sam sang. "I've," Quinn sang. "Had," Sam sang. "The time of my life," Sam and Quinn harmonized as they looked deep into each others eyes as the crowd cheered loudly for them.

Quinn couldn't help but smile, she had done it. She overcame her fear and performed a duet in front of a large crowd. It was then time for Santana to have her solo which featured Mike and Brittany dancing with her to 'Valerie' which was yet another smashing success for the New Directions. The New Directions closed with a mashup they had worked on with Mr. Schue and the substitute Miss Holiday who had filled in for Mr. Schue while sick of 'Singing in the Rain' and 'Umbrella' which seemed to be yet another success. Everyone couldn't help but feel relieved but had they done enough to move on to Regionals, that was the question.
