Grayson

I sat in the middle of that road and screamed for them as they drove away. I gave up on her a while ago, even though I knew I'd never truly let go, but my son hates me. I'm not sure I can blame him.

I got back to my place and slammed the door to my weight room closed. I didn't want to see Danielle, how can I face her now?

There was a knock on my door. "Not now!"

"Grayson it's me, Doug."

"What do you want?"

He slowly opened the door.

"I heard the town had a visitor, and I wanted to stop and say hello." He opens the door and shuts it behind him. "What happened?"

"I've fucked up my life again, that's what happened."

He sat next to me. "Spill it."

I shut my eyes, because it would be more pleasant to vomit than say the words.

"We will figure it out." He said.

"You know Danielle is here." I said.

"I figured there would a problem." He said.

"Mary Ellen faced her fears, and came all the way back here to tell me she was ready to be a family. I was upstairs screwing Danielle when she came."

"Shit, but didn't Mary Ellen say she needed time?"

"Yes, but I stormed out then avoided her, but she says she just needed a few weeks to make things right with Preston, to end things with him."

"You're a dumbass, have I told you that lately?"

"Not helping." I snapped.

"Well, what about Jacob?"

"He never wants to see me again. That's bad enough but she's pregnant, Doug. Again, she was alone and where was I?"

"Doing your job." He said.

"Screwing another woman. I finally accepted that she didn't want me, so I let Danielle in, she's a great girl. Not only that, but Allison has been screwing with Mary Ellen's head."

"Maybe there's just too much pain between you and Mary Ellen. Maybe you're right to move on with Danielle." He said.

I sighed. "Maybe you're right, but I will be in my children's lives."

"Then go fix it with your son." There was a gentle knock on the door and Doug got up. "Call me when you get back."

He walked out and standing on the other side of the door was Danielle.

"Did I ruin things between you and your son?" She took Doug's place, and I grabbed her hand and kissed it.

"No, things are just so new. I'll work through it with him, but we do need to talk."

"Alright"

"Mary Ellen is pregnant again."

She gasped.

"I can't miss out on another's child's life. I need to go fix things with him, then come to an understanding with Mary Ellen about both of the kids." I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.

"Now's when you're supposed to run away," I said, but she just curled up next to me.

"I'm not going to run away. I'm not Mary Ellen, and by the way, why didn't you tell me that was the mother of your son?"

I shrugged, because even I didn't know that answer.

I was expecting Danielle to run away like Mary Ellen or have a tantrum like Allison. I'm in unfamiliar territory here, maybe Danielle just isn't damaged. Maybe she's strong enough for both of us.
