Part Five

Fuad and Rumaisa have been seeing each other a lot lately and to him it's just a coincidence but for her most were planned.

She is seated in the living room with Sarah, Maryam and Jabir watching tv and chatting.
Baba was coming to Kaduna tomorrow again.

"Let's watch pitch perfect" Sarah suggests.
"First of all we've watched it and secondly Jabir is only into action movies" Rumaisa tells her.

"Okay. But all we've been doing is watch episode after episode of Homeland. I'm tired".

"Then watch on your laptop or go to the 5 other living rooms in this house or the 12 bedrooms, they all have tv's and decoders" Jabir tells her coldly.
She gets up angrily and leaves.

"Why do you always have to treat her that way?" Rumaisa asks him a bit shocked by his outburst.

"She's annoying, very spoilt and dumb" He says still typing on his phone.
"How are you two friends?" He asks shaking his head.
"Because I'm also spoilt and dumb" she answers back sarcastically.
He keeps his phone and looks at her dumbfounded.

"I didn't mean it that way you're different".
"We are best of friends so that definitely means we are the same don't you agree?"

"Don't misinterpret my words, alright?"
"Then don't insult her" she says and continues watching.
"But you two aren't the same she's intolerable".

"If you can remember clearly intolerance is what exactly got me in this situation".
"But I'm not him"
"But you shouldn't be him for her either" she tells him.

"What's your next move?"
"You'll see, soon enough" she answers back.

"Well can I change the channel?" Maryam asks and they both turn around to look at her.
They had completely forgotten she was there.
"Go ahead " Jabir says back.

:

Fuad was growing inpatient, he couldn't stay a minute without thinking about her. He thought once she forgives him that he'll move on with Hadiza and get over her for sure but no she has forgiven him but she still crowded his thoughts. He kept thinking,

what if she never forgives me?
Why should that bother me? Why am I letting it bother me?
And why the hell am I still thinking about it now?

He knew he was lying to himself, he still has feelings and they aren't gone at least not now.

He sat in the living room in his quarters.
Then someone knocked on his door.
He slowly got up and opened it. It was Fatima.

"What?" He asks.
"Well I was worried"
"Why?"
"Because you sent the maid back with your food"
"I know. I'm not hungry"

"Why aren't you? You haven't eaten anything"
"And who told you that?"
"Sources" she answers back.

"I'll eat later" he closes the door in her face.

He went to his room to lie down and rest for a bit, May be he'll feel better. Then someone called. It wasn't a number that he knew but he picked up either way.

Salama'alaikum

Wa'alikummussalam.

Yes? who is this?

It's Rumaisa.
He was so shocked he couldn't answer. What did she want? Thoughts went running through his mind.

You're quiet.

I wasn't expecting you'd call me, ever.

Believe me when I say I'm as shocked as you are.

So how are you doing and everyone at home?

Hectic.

So why did you call?

Can we meet up. I'd really like to talk to you.
He didn't want to seem like a pushover. A guy who would come running when she calls.

I'm a bit busy this week.

How about next week Tuesday?

I'll check my schedule.

Thanks.

No need. I have to get back to work now.

Oh alright then. Bye.

Bye.
He ends the call.
That's when he realized he really had to go to work, his dad wouldn't like it when he finds out he's been too busy chasing a girl that he left going to work.

:

In a story not everyone has a happy ending while Rumaisa kept hatching a plan her brother was too busy working.
Mudassir just recently started helping him with some of the minor business he had to look after.
He was rarely at home, he leaves before the children even wake up for school and then he comes back late (around 8) and exhausted he sleeps immediately after eating and taking his bathe. He was tired of it all but he had no choice.
But today he didn't go to work, he wanted to rest since he had to work on the weekends too.

"I'm glad you left work for a while to rest" his wife tells him.
"I'm glad I did. Unfortunately I couldn't spend time with my children since they had to go see their grandparents" he answers back still on the bed.

"They're your children they will always be here and they know it's because you had to work".

"I don't think the twins know that. They're still kids".
"But they are your kids"
"What would I do without you?"
"I asked myself the same question, what would you do without me?"

"How are they doing in school?"
"Well it's going great for now. But Aziza is having problems with math and Nabila with quantitative".

"Well I told baba that I want to work and have time for my family so from now on I would be taking them to school and I'll be back by five so I can help them with their assignments" he tells her.

"That's great. I have never been really good at maths so I don't want to make her fail. Before Salam or Rumaisa would help her but they're both gone now."
"I got it. Anyway have you spoken to Salam about what we discussed?" He asks.

"You know how he is, He's trying to avoid the conversation".
"I'll call him. At least I'm glad he's here. It's better than letting mama keep him tied to her in Lagos. When he should be thinking about marriage why should he be tied to her? The only one who can't escape that is Salma. Rumaisa ran away from that the moment you had Nabila".
"Yup. At least I had help. I slept and rested anytime I want since your little sister loves children so much".

"Yeah she does. How is she doing?"
"I don't know. She says she's fine, she tries to act like she is fine but it's obvious she's not. I heard Salam on the phone talking to your cousin Rilwan, telling him that he thinks she is just trying to look fine and that's why she left Abuja because she knew if you would have seen her you'd know she isn't okay".

"Well unfortunately for her baba is coming to Abuja then we'll be going to Kaduna as soon as possible to discuss something with Anty and Jabir as well".

"It's about her?"
"Fortunately for us and fortunately for her too".
"What do you mean?"
"It's a good thing and I think she'll think the same way".
