They didn't say a word to each other since they got in the car, now they are at home seated in the living room, there was still silence.
30mins passed by.
40mins
50mins
An hour.
10mins on top of that.

Until he spoke first.
"Did you know about it?"

"I swear, I never knew Salam has been in an accident before".
They stay quiet.

"He was my best friend and so was she, they were my closest friends and they got married. I was so excited that they would start their lives together" He stays quiet while she sat silently listening.

"Then he started hitting her, he was abusing her and even though she tried so hard to hide it from me I found out. They already had two children I didn't want them to get separated so I talked to them both. She would go through his things and mess them up and he who had no patience would beat her to a pulp. At the end I helped them sort out their problems and everything was cool".

"How did things go wrong when everything seemed perfect?" She asked.
He looked at her although his mind wasn't there at all.

"I have no idea and it killed me whenever I saw her beaten up and he bruised"
"Then what happened?" She asked curiously.
"He told me she was pregnant and that he got an offer in a company in Abuja and he was going to check it out. We celebrated and thanked god for an amazing opportunity. The next call I got from him was from the hospital that informed me that he was involved in an accident and they noticed that I was the last person he called....I immediately drove over to his house to tell and console my best friend and her children. It was 2am but I drove that night to Abuja and by 4am I was there" he pauses.

"He was dead when I got there. I took his only belongings they could find and called up some of the people I knew that could help me get his body back. I knew I couldn't drive in my state. He's body was completely crushed, it was a miracle he was alive when the ambulance got to the scene. I wanted to be there when they brought the body so I could console her but I didn't want to be there to keep looking at his body and the pain she would go through but I had to go either way".
"I'm so sorry, so very sorry"

"By the time I got to my senses that was 2months and 1week after the incident. I noticed something. The last time he and I talked was around 6pm but I saw several missed calls from him, he called me so many times around 12am which was his time of death according to the doctor. But I don't remember receiving the call. It wasn't in my call logs, I even went to the MTN office but nothing so I gave up"
She gets up and sits next to him. She put her hands on his shoulder to console him.

"That is the past, all in the past. You should go and take a bath then come back to eat because you're just going to keep hurting yourself"
He buries his face in his palm. She starts crying.
"Fuad stop this. You can't keep doing this to yourself. They always make the mistakes and you always let it get to you and you get bothered"

"She distanced herself from me because of that and she didn't even tell me why, it's hard when it's said out loud".
"Let's go in" She gently tugs his hand and they go in.

*Flashback*

"Do you remember when you told me you were dating Rumaisa?" Khadijah asks.
"Yeah I do. But why didn't you tell me?"

"You were in love with her and I didn't want you to give up someone you love because of me, I knew I'd never forgive myself" she says crying.

"So instead you pushed me away. You didn't pick up my calls, you didn't reply my messages and you always found a way to leave your house before I got there, do you know what I thought went wrong between us?" He asks.
She looks at Rumaisa before she looks at him and nods.
