Ethan
"And then, she was all like 'Ashton, please! I need you back.' But did I care? No, no I didn't. Blah blah blah."
I was totally spaced out of Ashton's nonstop blabbering about his ex's. I couldn't stop thinking about the girl with the messed up dad during lunch.
It was weird how it bothered me so much. I should probably quit thinking about it...
"Hey, bro, you okay?" A voice said, pulling me out of my thoughts. It was Justin, one of my best friends. He was usually more of the quiet type, but if he could actually ask me what was up, I must have looked seriously stressed.
"Yeah...I'm fine."
"You're thinking about that girl again, right?"
"Yeah."
"Why do you care so much, anyway?"
I shrugged.
"Maybe you should try looking for her. It seems as if she's your freaking soulmate or something judging by your obsession."
I huffed. "I'm not obsessed, Justin. I'm just...curious."
Ashton snorted. "Sure. And guess what? The cat was murdered by curiosity."
I rolled my eyes. So much for best friends. "Whatever guys."
A few minutes of comfortable silence elapsed. I was just about to take a bite of my sloppy joe when I heard shouts from the other side of the cafeteria.
"He's freaking mine. What point of this don't you understand, you freak?!" Sapphire Williams shouted at...Evelyn?
"I didn't ask if he's yours. You're the one jumping to stupid conclusions when you see me talking to someone," she, Evelyn, replied.
"You think he actually likes you, Velasquez? Well, news flash! He doesn't, so you can quit your disgusting little charade. No one cares about your drunkard of a dad, anyway. You should quit using him as an excuse. It just makes you more of a sorry and lame person." Sapphire retorted curtly.
"M-my dad has nothing to do with you, Sapphire! My personal life doesn't concern you."
Sapphire smirked and laughed. "Great! Then why don't I tell the whole school about your dirty little secret?" She turned to face the entire student community with an evil smirk on her face.
Evelyn's face went pale with either fear or shock. "Please...no..." she said, tears streaming down her face.
"Listen up, losers! Our both loved and cherished girl Evelyn isn't who you really think she is," Sapphire said. The room went silent.
No...
"she's nothing but a hobo now. Her own dad kicked her out! Imagine that. She's freaking homeless, guys! What a shame...goes to show you can't trust just anybo-"
"Shut the hell up." I said, louder than intended. The blonde turned towards me and batted her fake eyelashes. "What did you say, Ethan? I couldn't hear you over this girl's useless bawling."
I stood up and found myself making my way towards her. "I said, shut the hell up, Saph. No one wants or needs to hear your bull crap."
Everyone was silent. Each and every person was waiting on my next move with baited breath.
I continued, "Leave Evelyn alone. Everyone has their own issues, even you. No one made you the queen of Oceanview High, so you can shut your sorry mouth...if that's even freaking possible."
There were some oooh's that erupted from the other students. However, right now, all that mattered was setting Sapphire in her place.
She blinked a bit. "What? Y-you can't be serious, Ethan. You're defending her? I mean, look at her! She's totally hopeless! There's no need defending trash." She said.
I rolled my eyes. "There's no use listening to it either, so I request you leave. You're lucky you're a girl, or else I would've punched you a long time ago."
Sapphire shut her pink lips and stared at me in shock. She stomped her foot and strutted out, her Jimmy Choo's click-clack-click-clacking with every step.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and looked over at Evelyn.
"You okay?" I asked.
She smiled. "Never been better."
