I pulled out my keys and opened the house door. It was around 4:30 when I got home. As soon as I stepped in, I could smell my mumma's amazing cooking.
"Yum. I can already taste it." I yelled across the house for her to hear. I put my stuff done and went to greet her.
"Arre Beta. You're back so soon. I didn't expect you to get home till much later."
"The contract signing didn't take much long. They were already impressed by our presentation. I missed you." I said while giving her a back hug.
Still busy with cooking, she says, "That's good. Now the world can finally appreciate my daughter's hard work. I missed you too." She kissed the side of my head. "Navi's aunty, Kamini Jee, she dropped off some things for Navi. She said you know about that stuff."
"Yup. Nav's called to me to bring that stuff for the wedding. Did you pick up my outfits?"
"I am your mom. I always remember okay? It's in your room. I packed the wedding things for you. All clothes, makeup, jewelry and Navi's belongings in one bag. You can pack anything else in your smaller bag."
"Thanks mumma. You're the best."
"Should I make anything else for Vikram or is this enough?"
I had called mumma earlier on today to inform her about the dinner plans. She has shocked that I was inviting someone other than Nav's and Jeet over. But, she was happy that Vik wanted Indian food.
"Mumma you know how to handle dinner plans more than me. You take care of this stuff. I'm going to change into something more comfortable, pack for the trip and start cleaning the house. Okay?"
With that thought, I took all my belongings and went to my room. I dropped the carryon and my purse on the floor. I changed into comfortable yoga pants and a cleaning shirt. I removed all my makeup and pulled my hair in a messy bun.
I tried on all the wedding outfits to check for any issues. Nope. I was really satisfied with the way they looked and fit. Soon after I was finished cleaning and packing, mumma told me to get ready for the dinner.
I took a shower and came out. I wore a simple black and coral colored suit. The top was black and the pants and dupatta were coral. I wore my hair in a pony tail with my bangs falling to the side of my face. I wore very light and natural makeup. I slipped into a pair of black flats to match the outfit.
I rushed downstairs when I heard the doorbell ring. I was still on the stairs making my way down when mumma opened the door.
"Namaste Nila Aunty." He reached down to touch her feet. With the smile on her face, I could tell she was impressed.
"Namaste Vikram Beta. Come on in."
"For sure aunty. Oh these flowers are for you."
"Oh beta. That's so sweet of you."
Mumma walked past the staircase into the kitchen, giving me a smile.
I came down and faced him. He was wearing a blue dress with its sleeves rolled half way up and black dress pants.
"Well hello."
"Hello to you too."
"That was quite impressive. What are you trying to do by impressing my mom?"
He pulled me into a hug and whispered in my ear. "Just finding my way into your heart."
I pushed him away and saw him pull a sexy smirk.
"Shut up. You're only getting food here. Nothing else."
I grabbed his hand and pulled into into the dinner room. Mumma had everything set up. Once we started eating, we had conversations here and there. Vik and mumma were poking fun of me, we talked about Nav's wedding, high school, and work. After dinner, we sat in the backyard to enjoy the weather and made small talk.
