"Wake up!"screamed my mother, splashing a bucket of water on me. I woke up startled and coughed for air. "What?!"I screamed and jumped into a fighting stance.

"Calm down. We're heading east."she said and tossed me my bag. I catches it and looked around at my surroundings. The sky was beginning to rise, bird's were flying out from all directions. Animals nearby were swimming peacefully and the air felt calm. Neith sat at the edge of the river, sharpening an arrow.

"Why?"I asked as she looked back at me with a smirk. "To gather more helpers, of course! We have so many demons and evil magicians against us, you'd be surprised."Neith said, standing up.

I nodded in understanding and walked to catch up with my mother, who was already a few yards away.

"Who are we going to convince to help us?"I asked. She thought about it. "Well, we have many gods already. Heck, I'm surprised Set wanted to join!"she laughed a humorless laugh.

I shoke my head and stood by her side as she sighed and talked about the good days, Neith staring off into the distance with a deadly grin.

"Well well well, look what the cat dragged in!"said Neith suddenly. Nearby we could hear a low snarl that sounded like a cat shriek. Then a woman with lithe features and a graceful advance jumped towards us. "Neith. Chike. Catherine."She said, nodding to all of us and sitting up straight from her crouched position.

"You must be?...."I trailed off unsure which God this was. She smiled and showed her fangs, which looked very sharp. "Bast, goddess of cats."she said. I bowed and she gasped, standing back.

"Do not bow! You- wait, did you tell her?"She asked my mother. My mom looked at me with grief in her eyes and shoke her head. "But...you must've put the clues together."she said.

My eyebrows mashed together and my lip pouted out in confusion. "Clues?"I asked. She took my hand and bit her lip, then released it. "I'll tell you, just not now."She said. I raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. It would be pointless, my mother is stubborn.

"Come on. Time waits for no woman!"Bast said and skipped away from us.

What is my mother hiding though? I know how she acts, and I can tell she's....scared.
