Nicole's POV
What the heck?! Is this a master key? Alice is creeping me out. As I got in, I suddenly remembered that Clyde had a dog. What's it's name again? Fluffy? I walked slowly... saw his dog... it was staring at me. It wasn't barking, though. As a matter of fact, it was wagging it's tail. All of a sudden, it stood up and walked off. By pure instinct, I decided to follow it.
When I got up the second floor, I saw Clyde on the sofa tinkering with his laptop. He was wearing eye glasses. He looks better without glasses, but he looks fine with one, too. He only found out I was there when the dog barked. Clyde was startled.
"What are you doing here?! And how the hell did you get in?!" he exclaimed.
I was terrified. But, I had to be steadfast. I shouldn't be intimidated.
"Miss Alice gave me the keys to your house, and she told me to take care of you!" I shouted.
"I don't need anyone's help! Especially... not yours!"
I was hurt. I felt like crying. I thought to myself, 'No! This is Clyde being Clyde! I should not be unnerved!'
"You need help! I guess you haven't even eaten dinner yet."
"Why do you care?!"
"BECAUSE I LIKE YOU!"
I stopped. Why the hell did I just say that? We were both silent. Fluffy was also just staring at us. This silence was killing me. I decided to conquer one of my fears, so I called out his dog.
"Fluffy!"
"Who the hell is fluffy?" he asked.
"Uhm... your dog?"
He laughed. Why is this fool laughing?
"Is there something funny?" I asked.
"His name is Chubs, dimwit."
The nerve of this guy!
"I dare you to say that again, Clyde Rubio!"
"Dimwi..."
Before he could finish saying it again, I grabbed his left arm. He flinched as I held it. I immediately let go of his hand.
"I'm sorry."
He sighed.
"I didn't want you to see me in this pitiful state... so please... go."
"I'm here to nurse you back to health."
What's with this feeling like he's hiding something. I need to weaken his guard. I need to gain this man's trust.
"I'll cook first. Just rest."
"Okay," he said in surrender.
Time to test my cooking skills! As I went downstairs to the kitchen, he stood up and followed me.
"I told you to stay put."
"Sorry, I just don't want my house to burn down."
My house? I knew it. He lives on his own.
"Hey Flores, what are you cooking?"
"Porridge."
As I said this, I smelled something burnt. I immediately turned off the stove.
"Here! Dinner is served!" I said.
He looked at the porridge in horror.
"Sorry! I don't know how to cook." I took a bowl and filled it up. I decided to feed it to him.
"Say aaaaah."
"You know, you don't have to do this."
"Just eat!"
I shoved it in his mouth. His eyes widened and became watery.
"Is it delicious?"
"It's hot, and it's delicious," he stuttered as he said this. I could see that he had a hard time swallowing it. My curiosity got me. I ate some of the porridge... I couldn't even swallow it. Do I suck at cooking that much?! I was about to throw it away, when...
"Don't! I'll finish it," Clyde said.
"I know you just don't want me to feel sad... but this might kill you."
"After so many years," he paused, "this is the first time someone cooked for me again."
I mustered every bit of courage to tell him.
"Clyde, I will not laugh, okay. If you want to talk about your burdens... my ears are all yours. If you want a crying shoulder, I'll be here. Trust me, okay. I like you, Clyde," I said.
I looked at him. Tears began to fall from his eyes. I was surprised. This was the first time I saw him so vulnerable. He was looking down at the floor.
"I realized that I was always alone. It's like, I don't belong here. I tried to prove myself countless times. I played sports and excelled in academics. I wanted to make my parents proud. But, what did I get in return? A simple, 'Not now son, I'm busy," He was sobbing while saying all of these. I could feel his pain. My eyes became watery.
"Yes, I had friends... friends who abandoned me when I needed them the most. I promised myself never trust anyone again."
"Clyde, you should be happy." As soon as this words escaped my mouth, he sighed.
"Happy, you say? I haven't been happy for a very long time. I think I have forgotten the feeling already. The only thing I retained was my sanity and the willingness to help others, because I don't want anyone to experience what I've gone through..."
"Okay... enough with the drama already. It's getting late."
"Yeah. It'll be rude of me to send you home alone. You can sleep inside my room. I'll just sleep on the sofa."
"No! You'll sleep inside your room."
I dragged him. He was unusually compliant. I noticed there was a hug pillow on the sofa. I laid down on the right side of the bed so I wouldn't hit his left foot and arm.
Well, this is awkward.
"My hug pillow, I forgot it outside," he said.
"What... are you a kid?" I said.
"I can't sleep without it," he pleaded. I stood up and went to get it. As soon as I gave it to him, he curled to his left side.
"Hey, you might hurt your bad leg," I said and set him on his back.
He fell asleep instantly. He must really be tired. His hair was a mess, but he looked more handsome now. He still had his glasses on, how careless of him. I removed his glasses and placed it on a nearby drawer. Then, it sunk in. I realize I was sleeping with him in his room. I flushed.
All of a sudden, he turned over to my side and hugged me. Now we were facing each other. I could feel his warm breath on my face. Was he really asleep? My heart was pounding hard. I hope he doesn't hear it. He tightened his hug even more and this time, he placed his leg over my hip. Our bodies were now entangled. Our noses were touching.
I started brushing his hair. A question reverberated in my mind. 'Should I steal a kiss?'
No! I shouldn't. What am I thinking? But... he stole two kisses from me. He should at least take some responsibility right? Playing with a maiden's heart like that.
I decided to pull the back on his head and kiss him. I really like this man. My entire body began to feel heavy. I fell asleep with our lips locked.
A/N: Sorry guys for another late upload... I'm kinda busy with school works... I'm really sorry. :(((
