Clyde's POV

When I got home, my dog kept barking at me, as usual. I didn't pay much attention to him. I just put some dog food in his tray and some water, then I unplugged my laptop and continued what I was doing. What a rough way to start the day. I remembered that one of my cough masks was destroyed when I saved Nicole from drowning. I didn't want to buy anymore cough masks because those masks were given to me by my physical therapist.

While in the middle of my reverie, I heard my dog growling. I looked at him and saw that he was shredding my last piece of mask. I got so angry but I couldn't do anything anymore. I suppose I'll have to go to school on Monday without a mask anymore. I'll say it once more, "Can my life get any crappier than this?!"

Nicole's POV

It's Sunday! Family day as they say. We were going to church. I wore a simple dress.

"Mama! We are going to be late!"

"Sorry dear, just give me five more minutes."

She came down with my little sister and baby brother. My sister is three years younger than me, and my baby brother is just three months old. We went inside the church and sat in the front. As I looked to my left, I saw a "complete" and happy family. I felt jealous because my father left us. I got teary eyed but held them in. I needed to be strong.

"Oh, sit right next to Nicole. Don't be shy."

Who was my mother talking to? When I looked up, I saw Clyde. I was shocked, but as I came back to my senses, I noticed he was wearing a polo shirt and jeans. He was fine! I pretended not to mind while he sat down next to me.

Minutes passed. Then, it was time to sing "The Lord's prayer". What am I supposed to do? This is the part when the congregation hold hands with the persons next to them. As the song started all of us raised our hands at chest level and held hands except for prez. He didn't raise his hands.

"Prez you should raise your hands," I said.

"Sorry. I was lost in thought," he said.

I thought he didn't know what to do. He raised his hands and held mine. He held it casually like it was nothing. I felt a tingling sensation which was quite uncomfortable. His hands were so warm, the same hands that saved me that night. Wait, what's happening to me? Why am I thinking about that now? I hope my face is not beet red. I wished the prayer to end already, but at the same time, I prayed for him not to let go of my hand. My girly side was kicking in again. The song ended and we let go of each others hand.

Then, "Peace be with you," the priest said.

I kissed my mother, my sister and my baby brother. My mind suddenly went blank when I thought of how I should greet Clyde? Should I just bow to him like what other people do.

"Prez, peace be with you." Then I bowed.

"Peace be with you, Miss Flores." Then he bowed back.

He then reached for my mother's hand and he kissed the back of her hand.

"Peace be with you as well, Clyde," my mother said as she kissed Clyde's cheek.

Then prez returned to his seat. I felt jealous of mother. I didn't know that I was pouting when I looked at her. She looked back at me and teased me. She was repeatedly pointing at her hand where prez kissed it, and she was laughing. I just closed my eyes and didn't mind her. The mass ended and we went outside.

"Clyde, you should come eat lunch with us," mom said.

"Thanks for the offer ma'am, but I have to do something at home."

"Just call me mama if you'd like. You don't have to be too formal."

"Okay mama," Then prez left.

"Looks like I'm going to win," mom said.

What's this... some sort of competition?

"Whatever mom! I don't even like him. You could have him if you really want to," I was so pissed.

Then my mother giggled. She was getting in my nerves, but why am I getting angry? I looked at mom and both of us began to laugh.

"Let's go home! I'm hungry," my sister said.

"Okay. Let's go home," mom said.
