Nicole's POV

It's Tuesday and I have to get in the chess club in order for me to get that ticket! I went to a room that said chess club at the entrance and approached the first person I saw.

"How can I join?" I asked.

"Just beat me, miss," the girl had a smile on her face when she said this. I was nervous, because not only did she look tough, but she was confident as well.

I play chess and I'm not bad, but I'm not that good either. I play it just for fun. But it's now or never. We got it on!

I got the white pieces so I was the first to move. I moved the pawn in front of the king. This opening is for the four moves checkmate. I thought to myself, 'This is stupid.' This only works on players who don't know chess; but hey, let's give it a try... and it worked! I beat her in four moves.

"Congratulations... miss?"

"Nicole. Nicole Flores," I replied happily.

"Oh! So you are one of the rankers in the exams. No wonder you're good!"

Then she handed me the ticket to field trip. I was so happy! But I still couldn't believe I won. I think she lost intentionally, but who cares? I'm in the club and I have the ticket!

Clyde's POV

As I was walking past corridors, I could feel the dagger looks that the students were giving me. I felt like I was getting the "cold shoulder" treatment. No one was talking to me.

"Good morning, prez!"

Who might this be? I thought of only one person, the person I didn't want to see. I turned around, and yup, it was Nicole.

"Good morning, Miss Flores," I gave her my usual poker face.

"I just want you to know that I'm in the chess club now."

"Congratulations. If you're done talking, I'll be leaving now." Then I left her not waiting for her to respond. Isn't it enough that we see each other every now and then? She really has to see me like... now?! Why? Then I heard Miss Violet shouting.

"Nicole! Nicole! Nicole! I heard that you were able to join the chess club!" She was overjoyed because of her friend's achievement. Well, who wouldn't be proud? A friend being proud for your achievements... must be nice to be praised every now and then; must be nice to have friends; must be nice to be loved.

"Hey, no shouting in the corridors," I sternly said, then left for good.

Nicole's POV

"What's his problem?" I thought to myself.

"I think the prez is on the edge lately, don't you think?"

"Now that you mention it, it seems so."

"I hope he is alright." I didn't notice I was frowning.

"Hey, what's with that look? Are you worried about him, Nicole?!" she had this tone like she was teasing me.

"Let's just get something to eat!"

I changed the topic. Luckily, she obliged.

While we were walking in the canteen, we saw the boy who helped us yesterday. Upon closer inspection, I noticed he was wearing a badge. He was the student council secretary! Wow! But as we got closer, he avoided us.

"What's with him?" Violet asked.

"I don't know. I want to thank him properly for yesterday."

"Let's wait for him later."

"Let's do that!"

We ordered some food and went back to our room. It was five o'clock and I knew that boy must be in prez' room. So we went up to the third floor and we saw him with prez, as expected.

"Hey! Mister secretary!" I said.

When he turned to face us, he had the face of a scared puppy. When he was about to run... prez held his arm.

"What do you want with Angelo?" prez asked.

"We just want to thank him," Violet said.

"See Angelo? Women are not that scary. They are not weak as you think and some are completely annoying." Was that reference for me?! "I order you to talk to them. No buts!" Then prez left. We talked to Angelo and he was shaking as we were talking to him.

"Thank you, Angelo for saving us," I said

"You were so cool when you saved us," Violet said.

"How does that make me cool? Prez did all the work," he said in a stuttering voice

"By the way what happened to KC?" I asked. I felt my stomach twitch in the instant, I remembered what he did to me.

"They were sent to a rehab center. They were under the influence of drugs when they assaulted you. His mother was crying the whole time. We couldn't do anything. They got expelled and will serve a minimum of three years in prison after rehab."

I was shocked when I heard this.

"Well, thanks again, Sir Angelo."

"You're welcome." Then he left.

"Hey Nicole, let's go shopping for tomorrow's field trip."

We traipsed to a nearby mall. As we were ambling inside, I asked Violet what we should buy.

"Some toiletries I guess, and snacks," she giggled.

We went to the snacks section and bought junk food and drinks. We could hardly carry them because they were so heavy.

"I'll just call father to pick us up," Violet said, "And we'll pick you up tomorrow morning as well so you won't be late," she said teasingly.

"Okay, Violet. Thank you," we laughed.

We went outside and waited for her father. A black Mercedes Benz parked in front of us. I was immensely surprised to see her father in the driver's seat. This isn't the car that her father used the first time he picked Violet up. I didn't bother to ask questions. They dropped me off in front of my house.

"At exactly five in the morning we'll be here."

"Okay, I'll sleep early!" and they left.
