Nicole's POV
Now, that was embarrassing. What has gotten into me?!
"That's pretty bold of you, Miss Nicole," Alice said.
"Nicole, the trouble maker," Violet said.
"Guys! It's embarrassing!" I exclaimed.
"Well, now... let's see what will happen. Looks like Clyde is pumped up now," Alice said.
What did Miss Alice mean by that? The game resumed. I looked at Clyde and his hand was up in the air. He was commanding everyone. Twirling and twisting his hand. He looked more composed now.
"Clyde for three! Bang!" the announcer said.
Clyde was defending Alex. They were bumping each other like crazy.
"Clyde stole the ball! Now, it's a fast break!"
"Looks like Clyde got his groove back," Miss Alice said.
"Is Clyde really that good?" I asked.
"Clyde is a force to be reckoned with. Let's just leave it at that," Miss Alice said.
Clyde gave the ball to his rookie teammate and he was running. What is he up to. The rookie threw it up near the ring, but it was too high. You could see the look on the rookie's face, he knew he messed up.
"A miscommunication on the team of Canotona?!" the announcer yelled.
"Nope," Alice said.
Alex jumped. He was about to reach the ball. Looks like it was an error. To our surprise, Clyde got up there, caught the ball, and slammed it in!
Alex crashed to the floor. Clyde stood in front of Alex and stared at him. Clyde didn't offer a hand. He turned around, then ran towards the other end of the court.
"Wow! That was incredible! An alley-oop dunk! But he was a little cold there. Weren't they teammates back then?" Violet asked.
"Ooooooh! Is that a provocation?! Things are heating up between The Lightning and The Tyrant!" the announcer exclaimed.
"This boy... look out, thing's are going to get messy. Clyde hurt Alex's pride. This is no longer an exhibition match," Alice said.
I looked at the score-board, Canotona was now leading by seven points with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. They switched players. Now the rookie was defending Alex. Alex made a cross-over... then the defender fell down. What happened?
"ANKLE BREAKER!" the announcer shouted.
"It's a free lane to the basket. Alex is pretty good as well," Violet said.
Alex was about to lay it in, when he got blocked.
"Where did The Lightning come from?! He swatted the ball from Alex!" the announcer said.
Clyde's POV
"Are you serious, Alex? Bullying a rookie," I said.
"You still got the hops, Clyde. Once again, you humiliated me in front of a crowd. I'll really make you pay for this!" Alex said.
As the ref blew his whistle, I defended Alex. I stole the ball from him once again. It's another fast break. Angelo was running with me. I passed the ball to Angelo and we converted the fast break play.
"CANOTONA! CANOTONA! CANOTONA!" the crowd chanted.
"Feels good to be back, right Clyde?" Angelo asked.
"I have nothing but bad memories playing this sport," I said bluntly.
We got up on defense again. This time, as Alex passed by me... he gave me an elbow to my rib section. I spit out and crumbled down. They were able to score. I heard a whistle. A time out was called. I was still gasping for air. Angelo tried to help me up, but I was still a little bit shaken. He helped me to get to the bench.
"Clyde, are you alright?" the coach asked.
"To be honest coach... I'm not."
"Clyde, lift up your jersey," Alice said.
I lifted up my jersey, my left torso was swollen.
"Coach, burn another time-out then apply ice on the swollen area," Alice said.
"That was a dirty play!" Nicole exclaimed.
"As long as the refs doesn't see it, then it's still game, even if it's dirty. This is basketball. Even Clyde does it. When he uses a spin move, he puts a little elbow in it for the opponent to eat dirt, but not to this extent," Alice said.
I was trying my best to control my breathing. Thirty seconds before the end of the first quarter.
"How's your knee, Clyde?" Alice asked.
"It's alright."
"Clyde, are you really not gonna play 'til the fourth quarter?" the coach asked.
"Yes coach. I will go full throttle on the second quarter. I hope you could keep up with my pace."
"What do you mean, Clydey?" Nicole asked.
"You'll see, Miss Flores."
Alex's POV
This Clyde! I'm gonna humiliate you, I tell you! I'll make you fall from where you stand! I still have three quarters to do it.
"Coach! As long as Clyde is inside the playing court, don't sit me down!" I said.
"Alex, do you know that this quarter will be his last?" the coach asked.
"What?!"
"Alice, his PT said that he could only play two quarters. Expect that he will go full throttle this quarter."
"I'll defend him!" I said.
"No! I hate to admit it, but if Clyde goes full throttle... NO ONE CAN STOP HIM!" the coach exclaimed.
"What do you mean, coach?" I asked.
"He is the best player standing in the court right now and he will always be. In order for us to defeat him... there will be an 'unfortunate accident' again," coach said.
"I will not partake in this again, coach! I want to defeat him fair and square!" I shouted.
"Fair? What fair are you talking about? You were the the one who robbed the MVP status from him by breaking him, right? It's okay, Alex. You won't be the one doing the dirty work, just like five years ago. You just need to watch. Besides, he also humiliated you in front of the girl you wanted to impress, right?" the coach smirked.
"You're the boss, coach," I said sternly.
"Trigo, Sebastian... I don't care if you get ejected. You know what to do. Get ready to check-in this second quarter," the coach said.
"Yes coach!" both of them said.
"Promise me one thing, coach," I said.
"What is it?"
"As long as I haven't humiliated Clyde... don't hurt him... yet."
"Sebastian, Trigo, you heard the man. Wait for Alex's signal," the coach said.
"Uhm... coach?" Sebastian said. What's he thinking?
"Yes, Sebastian?"
"How broken do you want him to be?" Sebastian asked.
"Beyond repair," the coach said sternly.
A/N: Once again, sorry for the late up...
