It's been a few days since I last spoke with Penny and saw her. I had texted her the morning after our big fight and me and Jeff both got into it with each other and told her that I just needed a few days. She had tried calling me to talk to me but, I just couldn't bring myself to pick up the phone.
I miss both her and Charlie very much and know I need to go back home but I feel ashamed and embarrassed. I mean she was right the entire time. I can't believe I took those email's seriously. However, without my contacts of my old friends I just haven't had resources to help me figure things out fast enough.
While sitting behind my desk in my office, I hear a knock on the door.
"Come in." I call out.
As the door opens, I notice Jeff and a few other familiar faces come walking inside.
"Hey! You look like shit!" I hear one of my good friends from my gang several years ago.
"Theo." I call out and smile as I get up and we give each other a bro hug.
"What's up? It's been a while." He tells me.
"Yeah, it has." I agreed. Then I looked and saw Trey and Rolando.
We greeted each other and caught up a little bit.
"So, what's the deal with you taking orders from a douche bag? The Cade I knew wouldn't take shit from nobody." Theo jokes.
"Yeah well, times have changed and I thought I could put the past behind me but, guess it caught up." I confess.
"Well I heard you're being a real asshole to your old lady." He smirks.
"Yeah." I nod embarrassed.
"Well lucky for you, we've decided to forgive you from not staying in contact all these years and we do want to help you. But you have to promise us that you never go that long without saying hi every now and then." He says.
"Deal." I smile in relief.
"Good! Now that that's out of the way, I've got a few of my guys looking into your guy, Sterling." He says.
"Thanks but, it's not just him." I tell him.
"What do you mean?" He asks.
"Mr. Radcliffe is the mastermind behind all of this. I know he is using Sterling and that Sterling does whatever the guy wants but I haven't seen Mr. Radcliffe yet. To be honest, I'm not even sure he knows that I am the one building a casino for him."
"Holy shit! Radcliffe as in the sick fuck that likes to skin his victims alive?" Trey asks.
"Yeah." I agree.
"Fuck man! You're in a worst position then I thought." He says.
I nod my head and then we share a moment of silence for a moment before he Trey suggests they leave and get started on finding whatever information they can.
It wasn't an hour after they left when I was getting ready to leave that I heard someone knock on my door. I swear, I haven't been this busy before.
"Yeah?" I asked.
The door opened up and I see none other than Mr. Radcliffe himself. It's been eight years since the last time I have seen him.
Still looks the same. Still reminds me of Ed Harris.
"Hello Cade. It's been a while." He smirks at me.
"Yes it has." I reply.
"May I come in?" He asks.
"I guess." I tell him as I walk away from the door and he walks inside and closes the door behind him and starts looking around as he removes his sunglasses.
"Nice office." He comments.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I want to make a deal with you." He says.
"I'm not into that life anymore. I'm already trying to get out of this little shit deal you've got going with Sterling."
"I know." He chuckles. "He is a little shit. Not to mention a huge pain in my ass that I'm trying to get rid of myself." He states.
"If that's the case, why the hell do you have him build you an illegal casino?" I ask.
"That was never my idea. In fact, I didn't know I was building one until a few days ago. Then when I found out you were in charge of the building, I thought, why not come and say hi myself." He smiles.
"I want out of this." I tell him.
"And I want Sterling taken care of. Which I think we both could help each other out." He begins.
"What do you want exactly?" I ask.
"I'll make you a deal. You help me with Sterling and I promise you that me, my men or anyone else from your past life, whom are your enemies, I will guarantee you and your family are never bothered again." He says as he looks dead in my eyes.
I look at him for a moment while trying to see if he's for real or not and clearly he is serious.
"What do I have to do?"
