CHAPTER 15: Waiting For The Next Step

Both Charlie and I stayed with Cade throughout the day for the next few days in his office while he worked outside while we stayed in his office waiting for him by me home schooling Charlie and while I also make myself useful and do some paperwork for Cade to help him out. 

I heard a knock on the door to his office and then it opens and inside walks in two guys who look like bodyguards along with a man behind them who looks to be older and reminds me of an Ed Harris. 

"Oh, good afternoon." The older man smiles at me. 

I quickly begin to have Charlie come stand beside me. 

"Can I help you?" I ask. 

"I'm sorry, my name is Mr. Radcliffe. I'm working with your husband, Cade." He says as he walks up to me and holds out his hand towards me to shake. 

"Oh my god, I'm sorry." I smile while shaking his hand. 

"That's alright. I didn't think he mentioned me to you." He says while taking a seat in one of the chairs across from the desk. 

"He did. It's just, I didn't hear you were stopping by or even knew what you looked like." I tell him as I feel a bit embarrassed. 

"He didn't know I was neither. Is he outside working?" He asks. 

"Yeah. I can page him if you want." I offer. 

"That's okay. I'm sure he'll be here soon after he's seen my car." He smiles at me. 

"Well, while you're waiting, would you like something to drink?" I offer. 

"I'm good, thank you." He tells me. Then he looks over at Charlie. "Is this your son?" 

"Yes." I reply as Charlie stands closer to me and I put my arms around him. 

Thankfully the door opens up and in walks Cade. 

"Ah, there you are." Mr. Radcliffe greets him as he stands up and buttons his suit jacket before walking up to him. 

"Hi." Cade replies while looking over his shoulder at me. "I thought we were meeting up tomorrow?" 

"Yes but, something has come up." He says. 

Cade looks at him a little longer and then looks back at me before nodding his head in agreement and then both walk outside to talk and Cade turns his head back at me and smiles. 

On one hand I want to now what they're talking about but then on the other hand, I don't think I do want to know. 

I keep Charlie distracted the whole time so that he doesn't hear what they're talking about. This all still seems surreal to me and that this is happening to us. But I trust Cade when he tells me that we can trust Mr. Radcliffe. Sure he's told me about Mr. Radcliffe and when he worked for him but I know that I trust Cade and despite what he said about me trusting his friend, Framez, which he had no idea what he was like but I really do trust him about Mr. Radcliffe and I hope that things are okay. 

It wasn't too long until Cade came walking back inside and had Charlie wait in here while I followed him outside. 

"What is it?" I asked him. 

"Mr. Radcliffe told me that Framez and Sterling are working together and that Framez only found me because of Sterling." He begins to explain. 

"What? So does that mean?" I began but he cut me off. 

"We need to go home right now to pack a few things and we need to go somewhere safe." He explains. 

"But where would we go?" I ask.

"I'm not sure, but we'll find a place. We just need to leave." He finishes and we both head into the office to get Charlie before heading home. 

We hurried and packed up some things all while trying to remain calm at the same time so that Charlie didn't feel scared or worried while telling him also that we were going on a vacation for a little while. Luckily, he didn't question us and once we hit the road, I was trying to wrap my head around what all was happening right now and worried about how this could become our life. 

Cade's cell went off and once he answered it and hung up, he told me it was Mr. Radcliffe letting him know that we could stay in a private and secluded place that he owned in the middle of nowhere and would call us tomorrow to let us know what the next move would be. 

I really hope that Charlie can one day forget about all of this. I feel in a way a bit guilty that he's having to go through all of this. Then again, on the other hand, neither me nor Cade expected this to happen.
