CHAPTER 17: What's Happening?

My eyes felt extremely heavy as I slowly began to open them up and noticed I was in a bright lit room and soon realized I was in the hospital once I noticed an I.V. sticking out from my arm along with some oxygen tubes in my nose and as I try to move around a little bit I suddenly hear Cade who is sitting beside me looking like he has not been to sleep in weeks. 

"Shh. It's okay." He tells me as he starts rubbing my hand with his thumb. 

"What happened?" I asked. 

"Sterling and his men came and took Charlie and one of them, one of them shot you in the stomach. You've been in the hospital for a few days now." He explains. 

"What?" I asked still half asleep and half awake. "Where's Charlie? Did you at least get him back?" I asked. 

He shakes his head 'no' as he begins to close his eyes and I notice some tears begin to fall down his face. 

"I'm so fucking sorry. Baby I'm so sorry. I tried to make a better life for you and for Charlie but, I seemed to have done to the opposite." He begins. 

Out of nowhere, I begin getting flashbacks on what had happened. I remember the argument over a girl named Ariana between Sterling and Cade, then gunfire all over and I heard Charlie screaming but after that, I don't know what happened. 

"It's okay." I try and calm Cade down as I know that none of this is his fault because I know that he has been trying. 

"It's not okay. They took our son and I haven't been able to get a hold of Mr. Radcliffe and..." He stopped as we looked at the door and noticed Mr. Radcliffe standing in the doorway with a sympathetic look. 

Then I see Cade get up abruptly and stomp over towards him. 

"Tell me where he's at right now!" I demand from him. 

"I do have his whereabouts." He answers. "But I need to speak with you for a minute." He says. 

Cade looks back at me and mouths to me he'll be right back and then walks out. 

Both of them are outside of my room with my door closed so I can't hear too well but whatever it is, I hope that it has to do with getting our son back. 

Moments later, I hear the door open and see Cade come walking in, closing the door behind him as he starts walking over towards me slowly. 

"What were you guys talking about?" I asked. 

"I'm going to get Charlie back." He tells me as he avoids eye contact. 

"Okay. Why was that so hard to tell me?" I asked curious. 

"Because....." He began before stopping himself. 

"Because why?" 

"Nothing." He smiles at me and then bends down and kisses me on the forehead then my lips before placing his forehead on mine. 

"I love you so much and I'm so sorry for everything." He tells me as I can tell he's choking on some tears it seems. 

"What are you saying?" I began crying. 

"Just know that I love you." He tells me before prolonging another kiss onto my forehead and then getting up while still avoiding eye contact with me and then leaving. 

What the hell just happened? What did he mean by all of that? I hear the door open again and think it's Cade but quickly I notice that it's one of Mr. Radcliffe's men. 

"Where's my husband?" I asked the guy. 

"He'll be back, don't worry." He assures me as he remains in the bodyguard type of stance by the door. 

"Who are you?" I ask. 

"Don't worry, you're in good hands." He smirks at me which gives me an uneasy feeling. 

I don't like any of this one bit. Something is wrong and now that I'm now left with a bodyguard while Cade has gone to get our son, by himself. When will this all end? Please let this all be just one long nightmare.
