Downstairs, after Phillip's sudden disappearance, I ran into Hannah, my partner in biology a.k.a. the only person in the school I could call a "friend".
"Susie! You didn't tell me that you'd come" She exclaimed, looping one arm around mine and dragging me outside.
"You didn't, either", I blurted out ere contemplating.
Hannah gave me a knowing look. "Ō ó, what's wrong with my girl?"
I sighed. "Let's talk later. Where are Sylvie and Emily?"
Those were the remaining two girls from my biology class. Hannah tilted her chin forward in the direction of the lake hiding behind the woods. "Making out with their boyfriends."
I rolled my eyes.
"Any sign of John?"
John was Hannah's lab partner in chemistry on whom she had a crush on since the beginning of the year.
"There. Flirting with some freshmen" said she frustrated.
"Asshole" I sweared.
Hannah frowned because I never cursed. "Woah, you really are in a fantastic mood tonight." She released her grip. "I'm joining John, reminding him of the allure of the third-semesters."
"I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya", I called after her, watching her slim figure disappearing in the crowd.
Hannah was Turkish. She had olive-coloured skin and long dark brown hairs that fell over her shoulders in soft waves. Tonight she was wearing a sleeveless black dress, showing off her toned limbs that resulted from hard ballet training sessions.
Hanging around for a while longer, I decided to pay the bathroom a visit. I genuinely needed some alone time to clear my mind.
However, a deep cough from behind prevented me from doing so.
"Hey sunshine, let me grab you a drink."
I turned around.
"Susannah?" His eyes widened.
"Raphael. Hi," I said, aghast.
"Wow, I didn't recognise you. You look ... different. Nice." His pupils roamed over my body inscrutably.
I inwardly rolled my eyes. Seriously, are boys that shallow? Some bare skin and they suddenly hit on you?
Admittedly, Raphael did have his own charm: over six feet tall and lovely sweet curls like a baby boy though he was rather lanky. And I wasn't quite fond of lanky.
"Thanks," I muttered, awkwardly. Since we'd became classmates, he had been ignoring me. So I didn't see the point why I should feel flattered or compliment him back.
Silence fell between us, and he shifted from one foot to another, clearly uncomfortable with my lack of reception.
"I need to go," I finally broke the ice, eager to get away as fast as possible.
"It's half nine," he grabbed my forearm and led me to a group of people sitting in a circle beside the swimming pool. They were playing truth or dare.
Raphael squeezed us in. And as if someone had spoke a spell, the revolving bottle in the middle of the circle immediately came to halt, pointing exactly at me. The lid said "DARE".
