Jack's Point of View
It started out like any other festival for me; the guys and I were performing 8 Letters at the Boston Calling Festival. We stood backstage - we were supposed to be rehearsing but we were mostly watching the other acts and messing around with each other. There were still three more acts to go on before we were scheduled to sing, so the nerves hadn't quite set in for anyone yet and we didn't need to start any vocal warm ups.
"Corbyn, don't you dare!" Zach yelled as he chased circles around Jonah and Daniel. I couldn't help but chuckle as I saw Corbyn running after Zach with an opened water bottle. Those two were complete idiots.
At this stage, we had all given up on listening to the other acts. They were all really talented, but it got repetitive as most people had the same style. The only person we really watched was Khalid since we were big fans of his.
As we all burst into a fit of laughter, a powerful electric guitar cut through the sounds of our voices. We all fell silent instantly, surprised by the sudden change in music style. Daniel and I exchanged glances, wondering who was performing.
"My head's chained down by the voices
It's looking like they want war again
Their weapon of choice is a poison
Made up of all the words you said"
An almost angelic voice filled my ears, although it had a powerfulness to it that differentiated it from anyone else I had heard before. Curiosity overcame me; I had to know who she was. Without saying anything to the guys, I slowly walked to the side of the stage to see who it was that was singing.
It wasn't a solo artist with a backing track like I had expected; it was a band. There were three people - two girls and one boy. The girl singing was also the one playing the guitar and I could see the pure love of music written on her face as she performed.
One of the girls was playing the drums. Her hair was long and was dyed a light, pastel shade of pink. The boy was playing base. He was dressed in all black and had short curly hair. However, it was neither of these that were singing, and it wasn't them that caught my attention so easily; it was the other girl.
She was different to anyone else I had seen perform that day. She didn't wear tight-fitting or revealing clothing to get attention and she didn't have perfectly curled, bleach blonde hair. Instead, she wore ripped black skinny jeans and an All Time Low band t-shirt. Her style was definitely unique, but in a good way.
Her hair was short and wavy. Her natural black roots showed, but the ends were dyed a deep shade of aqua-blue. She was so captivating that I couldn't focus on anyone else on stage.
"When will the voices stop making trouble inside?
If I look in the mirror will I see through their eyes?
When will the voices in my head just stop and let me rest?
I can’t take it
Here come the voices again"
"Woah" Daniel breathed, walking up to stand next to me. The genre was completely different to what we would create or even listen to ourselves, but I think the raw talent of the band is what made us completely dumbfounded.
"Her voice is amazing" Jonah said, now joining Daniel and I. I nodded my head but didn't say anything - I had no words. "Who are they?" Zach questioned, walking over along with Corbyn - the incident with the water bottle earlier now clearly forgotten.
The guys continued discussing this new band, but still I remained silent. My eyes were trained solely on the girl with the blue hair. It had been a long time since I had seen someone, other than us, with an obvious love and passion for music. Even her stage presence was amazing. It was like she had speant her whole life on a stage. The crowd was feeding off of her energy, jumping around to the beat of the song.
"You okay, Jack? You haven't said anything" Corbyn said, snapping me out of my daze. I looked around and saw all of them looking at me. "Uh, yeah" I answered absentmindedly, returning my gaze to the girl on stage.
Zach seemed to notice this and a grin grew on his face. "I think he's just distracted by a certain someome" he teased, nudging my side slightly. I groaned in annoyance, knowing what was coming next.
"Aww, does Jack have a little crush?" Daniel joined in, laughing along with everyone else. I rolled my eyes at them, ignorong the comments. They continued to mess around, occasionally punching my arm lightly or messing up my hair, but I just focussed on the band.
Too soon, the song had ended. "Thank you everyone. We are The Renegades and we love you!" the girl yelled into the microphone, smiling brightly at everyone in the audience. Sje had a relatively thick British accent which u wasnt expecting. I couldn't help but grin at her enthusiasm; it reminded me of how much I loved music and performing.
"So that's who they are" Corbyn said, now knowing the name of the band. "Cool name" Jonah stated and I nodded in agreement. It was definitely different to most band names I had heard, but it seemed to suit them perfectly.
I had never heard of them before and I definitely didn't recognise the song. However, They seemed to get a big reaction from the crowd, as if they were well known.
"I feel like I've heard of them" Jonah said, furrowing his eyebrows as if trying to remember. "Unless they made a song for Harry Potter, I doubt it" Daniel laughed, earning a playful glare from Jonah.
"We should talk to them" Corbyn suggested. Everyone immediately agreed, but I was hesitant. I'm not really sure why, but I felt nervous about it. So many things could go wrong. They could have been terrible people or they could have been really cocky and stuck up about their music.
However, no one else seemed to notice my hesitation. As the three bandmates began to exit the stage - still bouncing on their toes from the adrenaline rush of performing - my four best friends stood eagerly awaiting to greet them. I guess this was actually happening.

A/n I'm really excited for this book even though I'm not really sure where it's going oops.
Also this chapter was from Jack's POV and the next will be from Alex's but the majority will be in the third person because that's easier for me to write oops
