Chapter 27

Your P.O.V

Today was February 27, only a few days until winter is over, and tomorrow is Light's birthday. I needed to buy him something but I didn't know how to since I'm still stuck at the task force.

In the morning I fidgeted in my chair then eventually said,"Can I go out?". The others raised their eyebrows at me as if I'm crazy. "Where are you planning to go (Y/N)?" L asked me. I stayed silent for a moment, if I told them I wanted to go shopping then Light would know I'm buying him a present.

"Just for a walk, I'm always stuck inside this building, I'd appreciate some fresh air. We haven't gone outside this whole month," I said a bit grumpily. L turned to face Matsuda then replied,"You may go as long as Matsuda is there to accompany you".

Light wanted to come too but I insisted I was fine on my own, he looked a little hurt but he'll realise tomorrow. I didn't want Matsuda with me either, he was nice and all but I didn't actually want to go for a walk.

I let him take me outside anyway, when we walked up to the end of the road I sped up my pace. When we turned the corner I ran for it. I heard Matsuda call my name, he was chasing after me but I didn't stop.

I purposely went into a crowd of people to lose him, then I made my way into a shop. I didn't know what to get him this time either. A couple of weeks ago when it was Valentine's Day he shared with me a box of chocolates but he didn't eat many himself, he wasn't a huge fan of sweets.

I found a stationery shop to look for pens. Before we were stuck at the task force he was always writing in his notebook. So I found a pen with his name engraved on the front, not an easy one to find since his name was unique. The shop owner put it in a tiny box for me and I slipped it in my coat pocket when I got outside.

Matsuda and the others would find me eventually so I headed to the park to pretend I wanted to be alone there. I sat on the bench for a few minutes then found Matsuda and Aizawa sprinting towards me. They took me back to the task force building.

When I got through the door Light jumped off his chair to run towards me. Instead of slapping me he hugged me hard. I couldn't tell whether he didn't want to hurt me in front of the others or he actually wanted to hug me.

"What were you thinking you silly girl?" Light asked. I paused then said," I just wanted to be alone for a while.. I'm sorry". Light actually looked a bit sad rather than angry, he hugged me again longer this time and sat down with me on the sofa.

L then pulled out some handcuffs and said,"Perhaps you really do need these". Light looked irritated then said,"That's not necessary Ryuzaki".
L shook his head then replied," It is, she could have tried running away for all we know, or tried running an errand for Kira".

"Shut up Ryuzaki! She wanted to be alone, she wouldn't try to run and she's got nothing to do with Kira," Light shouted. Although he didn't sound so sure when he said about the 'running away' part.

L held the chains then said,"Fine, you can be tied to her". He then handcuffed me and Light together instead and we didn't mind this. I could tell this relaxed Light more too since he would not have to worry about where I am.

The next morning when I awoke I poked Light's face until he got up too. "What?" He moaned turning on his side. "Happy birthday," I whispered. He stayed quiet for a moment then faced me again, he wrapped an arm round me then kissed my cheek. "Thank you (Y/N),"he said. He was now 18 years old.

I planned to give him his present after breakfast. But when we got out our room to eat, we found a big strawberry cake instead of breakfast on the table. More like something L would like and not Light.

L wished Light a happy birthday, they still didn't like each other but Light appreciated it all the same. It was the weekend so we didn't have to do any work if we didn't want to.

We watched TV for a while then Light got up to get a drink so I had to follow behind, still chained to him. But before he picked up a glass of water I pressed the tiny box into his hand.

He stared for a while in surprise then opened it up. He smiled a little then put it in his pocket. He dragged me into our bedroom then kissed me on the lips. He bent his face inches away from mine then asked,"Why didn't you tell me?". I giggled a little then answered,"It wouldn't have been a surprise then".

His face softened then he looked a little guilty. "Why do I keep thinking you're going to run? I love you so much
(Y/N)," he said.

He pulled the chain so I'd fall towards him, he held me in his arms then kissed me again. "You're my prisoner now," he joked wrapping his own chain round me. I laughed a little then he pushed me onto the bed.

He climbed over me then kissed me some more until I suddenly felt something hit me. I gasped and sat up straight. "What's wrong? Did I hurt you?" Light asked.

"N-no, I think I felt the baby kick!" I said a little excited. I was getting a bit of a belly now. Light pushed his head to my belly to see if he could feel anything. When I felt it happen again he smiled. "This is a great birthday," he said.
