It was the first day of senior year at Hawthorne High, and everyone was pretty excited. Tyler grabbed his bag, his mom reaching out to give him a kiss on the cheek. He pulled away, annoyed.
"Ma, for real?"
"It's your first day of senior year! You know I gotta." She snapped a quick picture of Tyler, he faked a smile.
"I'll see you later, Taco's here."
Tyler made his way out, greeting Taco and Jasper as they got on their skateboards.
"Where's that nigga Lionel?" Tyler asked, looking around.
"He's already there. Rocky and them too. Hurry up nigga!" Jasper laughed, and they rode all the way to school, a mere 10 minutes.
...
"Man, fuck this." Taco spat, as Tyler and them sat next to eachother in english. They had gotten the worst teacher you could possibly get.
"Y'all in here too?!" Rocky chimed in, the late bell ringing. They greeted eachother as they sat in the same table. Just then, a familiar face walked in.
"Man, I swear i'm gonna get her this year." Rocky whispered, as they stared at Jorja's figure walking past them. Tyler payed little mind, but everyone else seemed to be infatuated with her. Not to mention her best friends, Kali, and Bella, among others.
"Nigga, Kali's staring at you." Taco elbowed Tyler, and he looked back, Kali definitely had her eye on his tall looks. Tyler turned back, amused.
"You better get at her bruh," Rocky whispered into Tyler's ear. Tyler nudged him back.
"I will nigga, relax."
Class was short, the teacher presented himself, talking about his background and all of the shit that happens on the first day. The syllabus was handed out and the bell finally rang.
Tyler grabbed his stuff, making his way out the door, talking to the guys about their next classes. Just then, Kali placed a hand on Tyler's shoulder, catching him off guard. He turned around, a smirk riding on her lips.
"Hey," Tyler spoke, everyone else noticing.
"I'm Kali, by the way. I don't think we've met?" She smiled.
"Nah, we haven't. I'm Tyler."
He took out his hand, and Kali shook it, letting out a small laugh.
"I'll see you around then, Tyler." She walked away, Bella and Jorja following behind. Rocky, Taco, and Jasper gathered around Tyler, eyeing them as they left.
"Goddamn nigga! She can't make it anymore obvious." Rocky laughed.
"Yeah, she's cool."
"Nigga cool? She's fine as fuck! don't miss that chance, stupid ass." Rocky punched his shoulder, as Tyler shook his head, chuckling. They walked together to art, although none of his friends were in it.
"Y'all stupid for not picking this. Art class easy as fuck." Tyler sighed.
"Whatever T. See you at lunch." Taco said, as all of them walked down the hall to Band class. Tyler wanted to be in band, but there wasn't anymore availability. Art was his second choice, but he enjoyed it anyway.
Tyler walked in, taking a seat in the back corner, the only row left. He cursed, he didn't really like sitting in the back. Everyone began getting comfortable, and T took out his earphones, slouching into his seat.
The late bell rang, the whole row that Tyler sat in was empty. The teacher introduced herself, smiling as she passed out the syllabus. Just then, a face Tyler has never seen before walked in. Everyone turned to him.
"Sorry, I got kinda lost." The unfamiliar face spoke.
The teacher smiled, "Oh, I know! This class is pretty hidden. Are you new here?"
The boy nodded. He had a camera around his neck.
"Okay, go ahead and take a seat.." She looked around, pointing to the back corner, "You can take a seat in that back row, okay?"
He walked over, Tyler finally took his eyes off of him, going back to drawing in his sketchbook. He sat a seat away from T. Mrs. Nelson began to take role.
"Jake,"
"Here."
"Jackie."
"Here."
She went on, finally reaching Tyler, then the unfamiliar boy.
"Wyatt?"
The boy raised his hand, "here."
He was soft-spoken, unlike Tyler's loud and hard voice.
She went on to talk about the class expectations, then asked everyone to introduce themselves.
"Knowing there's some unfamiliar faces in here, everyone stand up one by one and say something interesting about yourself. Let's start with Sam."
The class started to talk about what they did or where they went in the summer, but Tyler couldn't think of what to say. He didn't do much but skateboard around the city with his friends. Soon, it was his turn. Tyler stood up, taking out his earbud.
"Sup. I'm Tyler. Uh, I like to skateboard and draw. Oh, and I really like N.E.R.D. That's it."
Everyone let out a small laugh, as he was already known as the class clown in every other class. The class clapped and it got to Wyatt. He took the camera off of his neck, standing up.
"Um, I'm Wyatt. I–I moved this summer, so I'm new. I guess I really like photography too." He sat back down quickly, everyone hesitated to clap.
Tyler turned to look at him, Wyatt's cheeks turned red as everyone laughed at his little stutter.
