Tyler couldn't look at Wyatt the same.
Something was different. He was cautious.
He walked into school, earphones in as he walked past the gates.
Tyler noticed him. But this time, Wyatt was accompanied by someone he didn't recognize. A girl. They were laughing and talking as Wyatt shared an earbud with her.
Tyler's jaw clenched, a feeling of jealousy rushed over him; but why?
A hand swept over Tyler's back, making him jump.
"Hey, did you miss me?" Bella whispered in T's ear as he took his eyes off Wyatt.
"Uh, hey. My bad, I didn't text you back."
"Don't worry about it." She got in front of him, blocking T's view. She took a hold of his neck, kissing him. Tyler edged back, looking down.
"Bella, not now."
"What about later?" She hung onto him.
"I don't know. I have to go." Tyler removed her hands off of him, as he began to make his way towards Wyatt.
His heart began to beat faster and faster, T was rarely nervous. This was an exception.
Tyler nudged Wyatt's back.
"We gotta talk."
Wyatt turned around, his smile fading.
"I'm busy."
Tyler didn't care, he took Wyatt's forearm, pushing him into the closest bathroom.
"What the fuck–,"
Tyler pushed Wyatt so harshly onto the wall that the paper towel machine shook. Tyler inspected Wyatt's lips again, he was so eager to touch them.
"Tyler, it was a mistake." Wyatt looked down, defeated.
"Who's the girl?" Tyler asked. He kept a tight hold on Wyatt's chest.
"She's in journalism club," Wyatt began to playfully grin, "Are you jealous?"
Then, a voice rang as the bathroom door opened.
"T? Fuck you doing?" Rocky, Jasper and Taco walked in.
Tyler let go of Wyatt's chest.
He thought of something, quick.
"Taking this bitch's homework." Tyler took out a random paper from Wyatt's backpack. He pinned Wyatt onto the wall again. "You better have that art project ready when I see you, bitch." He let go of him.
Rocky and them laughed, cheering on Tyler as they left. Tyler turned to look at Wyatt one last time.
"Nigga that's genius! You making him do your homework. Yo, that's fire. Imma get myself a little nerd like that and make him do mine." Rocky spat.
"Yo for real! Why didn't we think of that shit earlier?" Taco and Jasper laughed again.
Tyler smiled, confident that he had convinced them.
...
Throughout the day, everything was slow and uneventful. Tyler daydreamed about Wyatt, Kali was still not talking to him, and his grades were still sinking.
"So if you guys didn't know already, the Winter Dance is coming up! So grab a date while you can!" Their english teacher said, almost too cheery.
Tyler turned to look at Rocky, laughing.
"That shit is so stupid." Tyler breathed.
"Excuse me? Mr. Okonoma? Do you want to repeat that again or go straight to the principal's office?"
Tyler let out a chuckle.
"I said that shit is stupid."
Everyone got silent.
"Go to the office. Now."
"I ain't moving out of this seat unless class is over. I didn't even say anything bad."
The students laughed, Tyler clearly wasn't having any shit today.
"Fine. Guess you'll just get another strike." Fuck, a strike was the last thing Tyler needed. One more and he wouldn't be able to walk the stage.
"Wait—Fine, my bad. Sorry. It won't happen again." Tyler put his hands up in defense.
"Good. It better not."
Tyler sunk back into his chair.
...
The bell finally rang, it felt like forever. They all began to walk out, annoyed.
"Damn nigga, you almost got a fucking strike." Taco adjusted his backpack.
"Fuck that bitch. He gets on my nerves."
"You been acting up a lot lately though. You good bruh?" Rocky nudged Tyler.
"Just stressed about grades and shit. Nothing serious."
"What about the winter dance? Y'all wanna go and fuck around?" Jasper came up from behind them.
"Nigga fuck that bitch ass dance. Trash ass music." Tyler spat.
"But it's the last winter dance. What if we go like, we got nothing better to do. Plus Jorja doesn't have a date yet so..." Rocky began.
"Whatever."
"And you can ask Kali," Taco looked at T.
"Nah, she still isn't talking to me. Imma see."
They made their way to lunch, eating, nothing eventful happening.
The bell soon rang, and Tyler put his earbuds in, making his way to art. He wanted to see Wyatt again. As much as he enjoying being around him, he couldn't make it obvious.
Tyler got to class, but saw the same girl talking to Wyatt. She was pretty; there was no denying it. She had long black hair, she seemed artsy, just like him. She gave him a hug before she left.
Wyatt walked inside, Tyler following him behind.
"Here. Sorry." Tyler placed the random paper he had taken from Wyatt's backpack earlier in front of him.
"I don't need it."
"Listen, i'm sorry about the bathroom thing. I panicked and—,"
Wyatt cut him off, "Tyler, it's fine."
His soothing voice calmed T down.
"Are you going to the dance thing?" He asked Wyatt, trying to change the subject.
"I don't know. Why? Are you?"
"Maybe."
"You should go with Bella. She seems to really like you."
Tyler looked up at Wyatt from his seat.
"How do you know?"
"Saw both of you today before school. She makes it obvious," He smiled.
"I don't know, maybe I'll ask her."
Wyatt shook his head, agreeing. Tyler wanted Wyatt to react, but there wasn't any reaction.
