Sunday morning, and Tyler hadn't received any texts or calls from Wyatt the day before.
Truthfully, Tyler was hurt. He wasn't able to show Wyatt affection in front of people, that was just impossible. He knew that Wyatt dating Amanda worked for them—It distracted from the fact that they even had anything. But, it hurt him knowing Wyatt was with her and not with him.
He got out of the shower, and checked his phone.
A missed call, a couple of texts from Wyatt.
come over. no ones home. need to talk to you.
-Wyatt, 11:45 amTyler got dressed quickly, he wanted to leave as soon as possible.
"Ma, I have that project thing again—,"
"Are you lying to me?" His mother turned the tv off, turning to Tyler.
He stopped in his tracks, his heart began to beat faster as he thought of the possibilities.
"What?"
"You been saying you're going to work on a project but you don't even take your backpack. Who's the girl you going out to see?" His mom said, a little laugh towards the end.
Tyler internally relaxed.
"I'm serious, I got a project. I just left the stuff at their house."
She rolled her eyes, "Fine, be home early though. Yesterday you came late."
Tyler nodded, remembering what was going on at Wyatt's room that made him so late. He smiled to himself.
...
Tyler rung the doorbell, looking around to make sure no one was around. It was ritual.
He heard footsteps from inside getting closer towards the door. Soon, Wyatt appeared.
Tyler walked in, closing the door behind him before going in for a gentle kiss.
Wyatt pulled away, and looked down.
"I just need you to hear me out," Wyatt sat down on the couch.
"What happened?" Tyler noticed Wyatt's stressed demeanor.
"Last night, Amanda met my mom and now my mom wants my dad to meet her."
"So? They're just meeting."
"No, that's not it. Last night after my mom left I fucked Amanda."
Tyler sat down, taking it in.
"So she's coming over tonight for dinner with my mom and dad. It's like my first real relationship and they're eating this shit up. Fuck," Wyatt put his hands in his face, defeated.
"So you fucked her?" Tyler asked again, a little anger in his voice.
"One thing led to another—,"
"Nah, it's whatever. You don't have to explain everything. It's whatever."
Wyatt got up, coming over towards Tyler. He reached over, taking Tyler's hand in his as he placed it on his thigh. Tyler looked up from the floor, Wyatt was coming in for a kiss, but Tyler looked the other way.
"It's obviously not whatever if you're pushing me away." Wyatt began.
Tyler stood up, "It just feels wrong. You fuck her then you come home to me. Like, it's fucking stupid."
Wyatt sighed, "Then i'll break up with her."
Tyler looked up, his facial expression softening.
"You can't do that. She'll think something was weird. All i'm saying is we should just keep our distance for now."
"Tyler, I literally wouldn't be able to."
"At least until summer. Then we'll graduate and move away or something—,"
"Summer? That's so fucking far from now."
"I just can't do this shit. I've never done this before, I need to think about it." Tyler sighed, reaching for the doorknob.
"Tyler!" Wyatt's dad opened the door just as Tyler began to leave.
"Oh, I was just leaving—," Tyler began.
"So soon? Are you guys done with that project already?" He carried in a bag of groceries.
"Uh, kind of."
Soon, Wyatt's mom walked in with even more groceries.
"Oh! Wyatt I don't think you've introduced me to this young man yet!" His mom was just as perky.
"I'm Tyler." He took out his hand and she smiled, shaking it.
"You know what? you should join us for dinner tonight." She said, looking at Tyler, then at Wyatt.
"That's actually a really good idea. We can get to know Wyatt's girlfriend and best friend," His dad smiled, wiping his forehead from lifting all of those bags.
"Uh, I—," Tyler looked at Wyatt for confirmation, and Wyatt nodded lightly.
"I guess, sure."
"That's great! We'll see you in a few then, Tyler." Wyatt's mom smiled again as Tyler did too, closing the door behind him.
