The next morning, Tyler greeted Kali at the gate again. This time, he didn't feel much of anything. No butterflies, no shakiness, nothing. He brushed it off as being tired.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" She pulled Tyler to the side immediately as soon as she saw him.

"What's up?" He asked, confused.

"T, I think that I...I really like you."

"I like you too," He laughed, but then realized it was more serious.

"No, I mean that I really like you."

Tyler looked down to the ground, thinking of what to say.

"You don't feel the same?"

"No, I do. Shit, you wanna be my girlfriend?" He spat out, it felt almost forced, like he had no other choice. He knew Rocky and them would kill to be in his shoes right now.

"I'd love to!" She jumped excitedly, pressing her lips against his. Tyler's body fell, a sort of calmness came over him.

She pulled away, giving him a hug. The bell rang.

"I'll see you later?" she walked away and all her friends gossiped about what had just happened.

"What the fuck was that," Taco came over, everyone following behind.

"I guess we dating." Tyler adjusted his hat.

"Why the fuck you sound so dead for bruh?" Jasper laughed, punching him.

"Nah nigga, it was just unexpected. I'm cool though. It's tight." Tyler smiled, and they all congratulated him, laughing.

They started walking towards their classes, and someone familiar bumped into Rocky.

"Sorry–,"

"Nigga you blind?! Fuck out the way bruh!" Rocky slapped the textbook out of Wyatt's hands.

"Calm down nigga damn!" Tyler laughed, pushing Rocky to the side.

Noticing that Jorja's eyes were on Rocky from across the hallway, he made a scene.
He grabbed the boy's collar, pinning him up against the locker.

"You bump into me one more time and I'm beating you. Understood?"

Tyler bit his lip, unsure of what to do. Everyone else laughed, but him.

"Let's go." Rocky said, eyeing Wyatt as they left.

...

Classes were all long and boring, nothing eventful happened. During lunch they decided to hang out with their own friends, Kali told him to wait for her after school because she had a "surprise" for him. It seemed weird, but T was eager to find out.

"Aight bruh, see you later," Taco said bye to everyone as they each began making their way to class. The late bell rang, and T began to run to art. He couldn't afford anymore saturday school hours or else he wouldn't graduate.

He walked in, Wyatt was already sitting there sketching something into his notebook.

"This is a warning Tyler. Next time I mark you." The teacher said, T sat down immediately, sighing.

"Since it's the first week, we're going out into nature to draw and get to know eachother. You all will be choosing someone in your row to go outside with. We'll practice drawing the shapes and colors you see outside, but with a partner. Now, go ahead a choose someone!"

Tyler sighed, looking around, but everyone was already taken. Wyatt was the only one in his row, anyway.

"C'mon," Tyler got up, nudging Wyatt's arm.

Wyatt stood up, and everyone followed the teacher outside.

"Go ahead and pick somewhere to sit and start drawing the lines and shapes you see around you."

Everyone started walking opposite directions, figuring out where to go.

"We don't have to do this. We can go our own separate ways." Wyatt stated.

"Nah, c'mon. We can go sit over there. We don't get points if we don't do this shit together."

Wyatt followed Tyler to a huge tree. They sat under it, which shaded them.

"Can I see that?" Tyler grabbed the boy's notebook without permission.

"No! It's personal." Wyatt took it back, annoyed.

"Damn, sorry. What's in it? You're always drawing stuff in there."

"Just stupid drawings."

Wyatt took out his binder, taking out some paper to draw on instead.
A paper flew out, Tyler caught it before it could get away.
It read, Project on a Student's Life—Their Perspective.

"What's this?" T asked, giving it back.

"Project for journalism."

"You got any pictures you've taken recently?" Tyler tried to make small talk, but Wyatt wasn't into it.

"Look, can we just work on this? I don't get why you're even talking to me."

"What? I can't talk to you?"

"Why would you? Your friends fuck with me every time they see me." Wyatt supported his chin with his hand, beginning to sketch.

Tyler fell quiet, unsure of what to say.

"That's just how they are."
