A/N: Dear Evan Hansen Tree Bros one-shot because I love themmmm.
(Connor's POV)
Evan and I decided to hang out again. I chose the park with a lot of trees because I know how much Evan loves climbing them.... And I also love helping Evan when he's too short to reach a branch.
But here we are, Evan sitting atop a tree, a few branches above me, enjoying the view. And I, looking up, enjoying the view of Evan's adorable face while admiring the sky.
We carried multiple conversations before I started dosing off.
(Evan's POV)
Once Connor grew silent, I realized he had fallen asleep. I chuckled to myself and stared out into the sky, feeling quite relaxed....
That is, until a storm started.
It started with light rain, but that didn't bother me since both Connor and I were sheltered by the tree. Once the rain started getting heavier, I started getting a little nervous, but shook it off as I reasoned that it was only some rain and it would stop soon. Connor deserves some rest anyways.... But when the thunder and lightning started, I couldn't handle it.
I curled up into a ball and held my arms over my ears, trying to mute the loud sounds. I buried my face in my knees and I started shaking and crying.
(Connor's POV)
I awoke to the sound of thunder booming. It looked pretty dark out and it was then that I realized Evan and I were out in a storm.
"Hey Evan, we should really head ho-" I cut myself off as I looked up to see Evan having a panic attack.
I quickly climbed up to a branch next to his and looked at him. He was shaking a lot and covering his ears, panicking more when thunder boomed. He was hiding his face in his knees, but seeing how his back was shaking, I knew he was crying.
"Hey, Ev?... Buddy, you're okay." I spoke softly, very lightly resting a hand on his shoulder.
Evan jumped from the sudden physical contact and nearly fell off of the branch, but I quickly pulled him back up before he could fall again. He started crying louder.
"Hey, shhh.... It's okay, Ev, it's just me. It's Connor." I whispered, leaving my hand lightly on his shoulder.
"C-....Connor...?" Evan stuttered, opening an eye to see me right next to him with a soft expression.
"Yes, I'm here, Evan. It's okay. It's just-" I got cut off by another boom of thunder as Evan cowered into his arms and knees again. "Hey, hey, hey, Evan, it's okay. Just try to breathe."
"I-I-I c-can't!" Evan shook more intensely as lightning lit up the sky. He squeezed his eyes shut and hid his face again.
I slowly but securely wrapped my arms around Evan and lifted him off the branch. I carried him down to the ground where I set him down against the tree.
While I was letting go of him, he just grabbed my hand and held it there, using his other hand to hold my other. I then sat down next to him, leaning his head to rest on my chest.
"Evan? I want you to try and match my breathing, okay? Can you do that for me?" I asked gently, still holding Evan in my arms.
"I-I'll t-try...." Evan mumbled as I felt him slow his breathing down a tiny bit.
Just as his breathing became slow shaky breaths, lightning crashed again, followed by thunder, only this time, it was very close by.
Evan's breathing immediately went back to his fast and sharp breaths that he was taking before. He started crying again.
