"Good news..." Cisco said, sitting up from his computer and typing a little. "Our new Dark Archer friend just woke up from his nap."
"Maybe he can help us make sense of this."
"What didn't make sense was how he matched Kara's strength and Oliver's archery skills," Barry said, thinking back to today's events.
"We can only get answers if the man talks," I said, stepping away from Barry and walking towards the entrance of the cortex.
"Where are you going?" Caitlin asked. I continued walking towards the exit.
"To make the man talk," I replied, turning around to face the group, giving them a stern look.
------------------------------------------------------
The group seemed to silence after I had turned to them. I was not messing around. This was something I needed to get to the bottom of, and I wasn't going to just sit around and wait for answers to come. I needed them for myself.
As I rounded the corner to the entrance of the pipeline, I could clearly see the dark archer. He stood parallel to me, his mask concealing his identity. I walked up the ramp and stood square with him, crossing my arms. He chuckled at my strong and confident demeanor.
"If that's your best attempt at being intimidating, it's not working." I shook my head at the archer's snarky response.
"Why the mask? Wouldn't want the other Nazi's to laugh at you for being the only one that didn't make it out, huh?". The archer laughed again.
"If that's what you want," he said, his hands reaching up and pulling on the seam of his hood. My blood ran cold when I came face to face with a gaze I hadn't seen in years.
"Tommy..." I said, looking up at the piercing gaze. I froze. The archer smiled deviously.
"We must have been good friends if i'm on a first name basis..." the archer put his finger to his chin in thought, and my eyes were glued past him. Seeing him here in front of me was nostalgia. I could barely look at him. I began to remember the look on his face when I told him I was leaving STAR City. We hugged for hours. We spent the rest of that week together. When I moved to Central City, we still communicated. Every other weekend my family and I would go up to STAR City to meet with some of our extended family, and my mom would let me go over and see Tommy. When my parents died, he came to the funeral and helped me through it when we could. We stopped seeing each other when I was put in foster care. When Joe took me in, I forgot all about Tommy and that life. Barry became my new Tommy after that. "I know my doppelganger is dead on this earth...I must have meant something to you if you can't even look me in the eyes...". I looked up at the archer slowly, memories flooding over me like a tidal wave...Sneaking around in his treehouse...Chasing each other on the lawn...Jumping on the trampoline late at night...
"Tommy was a good man..." I said, my gaze strong on Tommy's eyes. "He was my best friend growing up...Seeing you is bringing everything back...".
"I'm not like the man you know...I wasn't born into Tommy's trust fund, exquisite lifestyle. Where I came from, you were put into military and defense training from birth. I never got the chance to grow up and experience a normal childhood...".
"You have a choice now to go along a different path."
"Ugh, how did Tommy put up with you?" he asked. "You're sunshine and rainbows personality is making me sick!"
"WHERE CAN I FIND THE OTHERS?" I yelled, growing impatient. I paused for a moment and regained my composure. "How's that for sunshine and rainbows?"
"Wish I could help you, but I can't.''
"Losing you was like losing a part of me. I would have died for you, you know. The old Tommy sacrificed his life for someone. Why can't you be the good man you used to be?". Tommy turned around
"If I talk, the Fuehrer will kill my father, my mother, everyone I love. I know you've been in a similar experience before. Wouldn't you do the same thing?"
"I do everything I can to make sure they stay safe...I can do the same for you". Tommy tilted his head and pointed a finger at me.
"I never pinned Flashette as being such a big idiot. heard so many remarkable things about you, but I would have never pictured this. Pathetic. So easily swayed by sentiment...The Reich will change that once they make their arrival."
"You can help us stop them...You can be free from this life...". Tommy stepped closer to the glass of the pipeline wall, our bodies only separated by the pipeline wall and only a few inches.
"Your entire world will be enslaved, and everyone you love will be no more...".
"They'll try."
"Too bad I won't be around to stop it..." Tommy said, placing something in his mouth. I've seen Captain America...I knew how this went.
"NOO!" I yelled, running to the pipeline keypad and placing my hand on it as quickly as I could. The door didn't open fast enough. Tommy's body fall against the glass with a thud, and collapsed on the floor as it opened completely. His gaze shifted, settling coldly on my figure. I fell to the ground, my heart breaking. I hadn't been around to witness the death of Tommy on this earth, but it hurt more losing him again. "Tom..." I trailed off, my hand making its way to my chest. I began to sob. I sat, reflecting on everything we had been through.
"It's alright," a deep voice said as arms wrapped around my shoulders. I leaned into the familiar figure, needing the comfort and sympathy. I pressed up against him, expecting to nestle in my usual spot against Barry's neck and into his chest. When I couldn't find the spot, I knew it wasn't him. I turned around quickly with my brows furrowed to see Oliver.
"Ollie...What are you doing?" I asked, standing up and wiping the remaining tear stains off my cheeks. I sniffled, and Oliver opened his arms. This was a side of him I wouldn't expect to see. Felicity probably doesn't even see it. Despite his usually tough attitude, I took a step forward and melted into his embrace.
"C'mon, let's go somewhere else...I'll have Cisco take care of Archer..." Oliver said before leading me into the speedlab. He knew it was hard for me, and I admired him for that.
"I'm sorry...It's just--"
"I understand...". Oliver sat down on the steps and patted the space next to him for me to sit.
"I feel so guilty..." I said, sitting down. "Barry doesn't know about Tommy and I's past...".
"He was like my brother...I would have died for him...I actually almost did." Oliver shifted in his seat. I could tell this was a touchy subject for him.
"We were friends since we were little kids...I lived in the little house next door...We'd be over at each other's houses all the time. Even when I left home and moved here, we still came back to each other. Barry was chasing around Iris, and I was off with Tommy. The weekend before he died, we had just gotten engaged. We were young, but we had planned our whole future together. The day he died, I was on my way to see him...I was in such shock, I couldn't even go to the funeral. Seeing the doppelganger die in front of me was like losing him all over again." My eyes began to well with tears, and Oliver pulled me closer into his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you had such a close past. He mentioned he was seeing someone, but I didn't know it was you...I figured it was Laurel. I just find it funny how we never crossed paths." I thought about it for a moment, but then feared about Barry. I hadn't shared this part of my life with anyone else. It was too painful to discuss.
"Barry doesn't know...It's been too painful to talk about. I don't want him to feel like he's any less special in my heart because I was with someone before him. Clearly, Tommy and I weren't destined to work out."
"He'll understand...Barry's not like that. It's the same thing with him and Iris. I'm sure they had something at some point."
"Thanks, Ollie...", I said, ruffling up the small bit of hair he had on his head.
"Talk to him...He's out right now looking for Earth-X Nazis, but he'll be back soon. Don't be nervous..."
"Thanks..." I said, standing up and hugging him once more. I then kissed him on the cheek and sped home.
"Hey," Barry said as he opened the door and stepped inside the house, closing the door behind him. "Twins are in bed, I'm assuming." I nodded my head and Barry joined me on the couch.
"Learn anything about the dark archer?" I asked. I swallowed the lump in my throat that was forming.
"Sara called him an Anachronism...People and things displaced throughout time...Aside from the 52 earths we knew about, Harry knows a 53rd where the Nazis developed the atomic bomb first...Destroyed all major cities. New York, London, Paris, Moscow, gone...Probably got here through a breech. We can't know for sure."
"Bar, there's something I have to talked to you about..." I said, looking deeply into his eyes. He took my hands in his.
"Did I do something? You're not filing for divorce, are you? I can change! I want to make this work!". I wiggled my hand from his grip and placed a finger over his mouth to silence him. I shook my head. I could tell he was nervous.
"You know I was friends with Tommy Merlyn for a while before we actually met..."
"Yeah, similar to how Iris and I were friends in school before I met you".
"This was different, Barry...Tommy and I became more than friends for a while...We were engaged, Bar. I thought he was the one. We were going to tell everyone that weekend about the engagement. He died before I got the chance...".
"Chloe, I--"
"It's alright if you're mad. I've been leaving you with the impression that you were the only one, but he's a part of my past that's too painful to talk about...".
"I would never be mad at you," Barry replied, placing a hand under my chin and making me look at him. "Technically, Iris was my first love, so I guess we're even...". I chuckled at his statement. "If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have found the truest of love in each other." I smiled and kissed him passionately. The reaction I had gotten from him was something I was not expecting. I was just glad he was understanding. I also knew he wouldn't go out and tell everyone. One thing I admired about him the most was how he kept things private between us that needed to be. Such a gentleman.
"Thank you," I rested my forehead on his and placed a hand on his knee. "I thought you'd be mad at me. It is a big thing to hide from your husband and long time best friend."
"I understand completely. The first love stings the worst. Everyone is always going to remember them...The one that was perfect for them, but the one they could never have. When you do get that chance, it flashes before your eyes."
"We would talk all the time about the future...Our wedding, and where we would live...He wanted to get married in a chapel in vegas. He was always one to rush into things. I wanted a big, planned wedding with all our friends and family...He wanted a big house with a pool in the backyard so he could teach his kids how to swim...He always wanted a big family, but never got the chance...". I began to cry once again. Barry pulled me into his embrace.
"He would be proud of you and everything you've done...". I snuggled up to Barry's chest and rested my head in the crook of his neck, thinking about how it used to be. After a few minutes of silence, I was asleep.
"How's the rest of the team doing today?" I asked as I entered the cortex.
"Felicity's got her friend working on Palmer Technology's spectrometry satellites. Jax and Stein went off to the other room to finish an argument...Major daddy issues..." Cisco said, raising his eyebrows. "Harry is doing his usual tinkering, and the rest of the team is figuring the rest out. Harry seemed to have a lot of useful information about Earth-X."
"Sorry for leaving yesterday...I wanted to help out and stay with you guys, but after the whole Tommy thing, I thought I'd head home."
"Take as much time as you need. We have plenty of brains and muscle here...Of Course none of them compare to having you in my company," Cisco smiled, and I smiled back. I then joined Cisco's side at the computer, and Barry went off to talk with the rest of the team.
"We got something!" I said over the loudspeaker a few moments later after the satellite picked up on something. The room was filled with beeping, and the rest of the teams filed in.
"Break-in at Dayton Optical Systems." I searched for more information on the break in, and tried to find security cameras. "Cameras are down, but from recent events I can infer these are the Nazis. We're going in this blind."
"Suit up," Barry said before the heroes got into their respective costumes. When everyone was ready, we sped to the location. Me and my fellow faster teammates waited for the non-speed teammates to arrive.
"Don't have superspeed, but thanks for waiting," Oliver said as he stopped his motorcycle and took off his helmet.
"Why would they want to come here?" Sara asked as she looked around at the parking garage we were in.
"It has something we need," a distorted voice said from a distance. Within an instant, the Nazi archer ziplined into the area. We stood our ground, defensively.
"We're going to get back whatever you took."
"Predictable sense of confidence. You've faced so many evils, and have come out successful. You think that since you defeated them, you can handle everything and anything you're ever going to face."
"What do you think about us?" The flying Nazi Kara battled earlier said. Both the archer and the flying Nazi removed their masks. Before us were two doppelgangers of Kara and Oliver.
"Is it like looking in a mirror?". A speedster came into view, a red trail of lightning behind him. It was the reverse flash suit. I thought it was impossible to be him. Sure enough, he took off his mask, and it was Eobard Thawne.
"Thawne!" I exclaimed, surprised to see him. I clenched my fists in anger at all he has caused me.
"That's me...Direct from Earth-1...Always a pleasure, Chloe..." Eobard grinned widely, and my eyebrows furrowed. What do you think about my face?"
"It's the face you were wearing when we first became the Flashes."
"I thought I'd put it on again for old time's sake."
"You died...We watched you..."
"Or so you think...I'm sure you've heard of a little thing called time travel. If not, your hubby could tell you all about that, considering he's done it on multiple occasions."
"This earth...Making people so soft."
"We've been watching you. You've squandered the potential of 2 worlds. On our earth, we've developed a meritocracy. We've accomplished greatness. I'm grateful that my ipod crashed into the fatherland. Without that, I wouldn't have met my husband..." The evil looking Kara turned to the Dark Oliver and gave him a kiss. We all looked around at each other and winced.
"Ew...No offense, Ollie...Just used to seeing Felicity and you locking lips," said Kara with her hand in the air. It was certainly weird seeing two of my best friends infront of me kiss, when I knew that they had very different people in their lives.
"Last chance to go home and stay there. Noone gets hurt, and everything will go back to the way it is." Oliver pulled out an arrow from his pouch and lined it up. The evil Kara cackled.
"You think i'm scared of a little arrow? Please, bullets bounce right off."
"This won't..."Oliver said, a small rock on the front glowing green.
"Is that a kryptonite arrow?" Kara asked. Oliver nodded his head.
"Saved it just for this occasion," Oliver said, shooting it towards the evil Kara. It just barely grazed her shoulder before she could react quickly, but got stuck in the pillar behind her. She stumbled back with a groan, and all the heroes went off to fight the other soldier's that appeared.
"We let them get away! They did exactly what they wanted..." I stood in the garage among the dead and injured Nazi soldiers we had faced.
"They made it out with the prism".
"The what?"
"It's a sub-light generator. It's a pectral emitter that Uses quantum entanglement.
You could also use it to create a stable fusion reaction." Mick furrowed his eyebrows and looked around the room for an explanation. We certainly knew who the nerdy ones were in the room.
"How does this work?" Mick asked. "I don't get it." Caitlin stepped forward. She was the one who usually explained all these things.
"To put it into lighter terms, the device they steal can be converted to a neutron bomb."
"The only part I got out of this was that Kara and Oliver have doppelgangers that are married."
"What?" Felicity asked, surprised. "Is this the universe's way of saying we won't work out?". I shook my head. I knew they were endgame.
"There are infinite possibilities," I placed a hand on her shoulder. "I know you guys are meant to be."
"There's a 1 in however many chance of you being with Barry."
"Been there, kissed, and ew," said Felicity, wincing. My head whipped in Barry's direction.
"WHAT?" I asked. "When, and how...". I growled. I had no idea this happened. It made me wonder how many things he hadn't told me. Barry's hand rubbed the back of his neck and he began sweating nervously.
"On the train...Before she left to head back to S.T.A.R City...We weren't together at the time. Infact, you were probably running around with Tommy at the time." I nodded in defeat. He did have a point.
"Touché, Allen." Cisco interrupted. He waved his hands in the air to get everyone's attention back.
"Hello? Can we get to the topic here? We have bigger ideas than "America's Next Top Love Triangle".
"The Reverse Flash is back.
"I still can't believe it," I said, looking off into the distance. Knowing he was back brought back the worry in my heart. I have a lot more to lose than before.
"Did we get anything we could use to track them?" Barry asked, stepping forward closer to Cisco.
"This might help," said Oliver, holding up a bag with a small stick. "This arrow has not-so-Supergirl's blood on it."
"Let's track it with quantum analysis."
"On it..." Felicity and Caitlin said, taking the arrow into the other room and doing some tests.
"Says here the red blood cells are suffused with some kind of radiation..." Catlin said, walking in the room, tablet in hand and Felicity in tow.
"Like solar power solar radiation?" Mick asked. At least he was understanding something out of this whole conversation.
"Exactly. High amounts of shortwave, infact. Nothing i've ever seen."
"Can it be traced?" Sara asked. Felicity laughed out loud. She stopped when she realized everyone was staring.
"Well, I once caught a deranged serial killer off his face cream, so...Yes, I can." Felicity scurried over to Oliver and grabbed the bag from his hands. She turned back around and disappeared into the side room off of the cortex to trace the blood. I turned back to the rest of the team, who had nothing to do.
"Stay close incase we have something," I replied before turning around. I walked down the cortex hall and stopped at the time vault. A place I hadn't been in a while. I placed my hand up to the keypad, about to touch it, before someone stopped me.
"Hey," a voice responded softly as I put my hand back down to my side quickly. I placed a loose strand of hair behind me ear. It was Oliver.
"I know seeing the Reverse Flash must be hard for you. I just want to make sure you're alright." I smiled at his kind gesture and took a step away from the wall. We moved more towards the center of the corridor.
"I'm plowing through it," I responded. I had mixed feelings about this issue. "I think the hardest part about it is that I keep looking for closure, but then he comes back, and I'm back at the beginning." Oliver looked up at me with wide eyes.
"I understand...".
"And now that I have a family, I have a lot more to lose. I spend every waking minute thinking about the possibility of someone coming into our lives to destroy that."
"It will end soon enough," Oliver said as he placed a hand on my shoulder. "You always find a way to end things. Look at Zoom...Savitar...You did that." I smiled at his words. He always knew what to say.
"I've heard that so many times before. How can you be so sure?" I asked. Oliver looked me dead in the eyes.
"That's all you've ever done since day one. You complete any task you put your mind to."
"Is that enough?" I asked. Oliver looked at me once again, sternly. "There have been times when-".
"If it's not, you've got us to help. It's our job to protect our loved ones, as well as the city..... Protecting your loved ones at risk makes you acknowledge what you already have. Grab hold of it, recognize it, and let it help you become stronger." I took in his advice for a moment. It was genuine. But on the other hand, it sounded like he was convincing himself of something.
"I think you should be listening to your own advice, Ollie," I said, poking his chest. I chuckled, and he shook his head.
"I don't know...She told me she doesn't want to be married." I put a hand in the air. I knew this girl in and out. Every girl wants to be married someday. Some want it later than sooner.
"There are a lot of things in life people don't want, Ollie. Finding someone to love you forever is something many dream of. You can't tell me she doesn't want to marry a hunk like you." Oliver shook his head once again.
"If she loved me as much as I love her, she'd want to marry me."
"I've known Felicity for as long as I can remember. I can tell you that she loves you with her entire being."
"I sure do", Felicity said as she came into view. Oliver and I turned to face her. I hoped she wasn't listening in. But what did it matter? Cisco was probably watching on the cameras anyways. "I didn't get the rest of that conversation, but I hope you weren't gossiping about me..." She said, pointing to herself. Anyways, we got a location". I looked back at Oliver.
"Thanks," Oliver and I said in unison as she nodded and turned on her heel to walk back to the cortex.
"Thanks for the Ted Talk, Mr Queen," I joked with a wide smile.
"Anytime," he responded before we walked into the cortex. The rest of the team was already suited up and waiting for our cue.
"Where we are heading to, Cisco?" I asked before I sped into my suit.
"Danville shipping deposit," Cisco replied, reading his monitor.
"You got it," I replied before placing my comlink in my ear and slipping on my mask. "Let's roll," I said before I sped out of the cortex, the team following to Danville.
"Alright, Supergirl and Firestorm are sweeping the perimeter." I looked around at the team, who were anxiouslly waiting for direction. "The main entrance is swarmed with Nazi soliders, so they must be on guard. The prism has to be here.".
"Alex and I are going to breach positions in the northwest corner," Sara said, looking over at Alex. I could notice some tension between them, but I decided not to ask.
"Barry, Cisco, Cait, Oliver, you come with me and we'll be on ground control." The group nodded at my words and followed behind me as we stood next to the entrance. "Ready?" I asked. I could see the lightning in Barry's eyes, and I was starting to feel it too. "Let's go get 'em," I said before Barry and I sped into the entrance. Oliver followed suit, shooting arrows in all directions. Caitlin and Cisco began shooting blasts from side to side. We were instantly catapulted into a swarm of Nazis who seemed to be awaiting our arrival. Supergirl and Firestorm began fighting Nazis from the air, taking them down with their fireballs and X-ray vision. Barry, Oliver, Sara, Alex, and I began fighitng off the Nazi's on the ground. The scene was scattered with Nazi soldiers, small fires from Firestorm's shots, arrows everywhere, and scald marks on the walls from Supergirls' vision. The team was working hard to fight off the Nazis, and we seemed to be no match. Whatever we did, more Nazis would come right back to take their place. As I continued to fight, I turned to fight one of the soldiers when I saw Cisco in my peripheral. He had been ambushed by a group of Nazis, who were now towering over him. He looked as if he were unconscious. Luckily, Caitin arrived in time to get him out safely. Sara and Alex had been captured by two Nazis. Even Barry was being held in the arms of two Nazis, his head hanging low. Off in the distance, I could see Oliver on the ground struggling to grasp the very last arrow in his quiver. Overwatch Kara watched proudly at her work with her arms crossed. A robot was next to her, and approached Oliver slowly, it's metallic figure getting closer and closer.
"Ollie, Lookout!" I yelled in between punches as the robot sucker punched him, knocking him out cold. I finished off the last group of Nazis and stood in a sea of bodies.
"Well well well, not much you can do, can you?" a voice asked from behind. I turned around quickly to see it was the Reverse Flash. "I must say, you've improved since the last time I saw you. Finally learned how to keep someone down."
"You're next," I replied, gritting my teeth. The Reverse Flash laughed, a sound I never thought i'd hear again. My blood boiled, looking at the man who took everything away from me. And to think, he had no remorse or regret."
"Last man standing...", he said, motioning around to the scene. My friends were all being held captive in the arm of Nazis that began to swarm around me.
"I'm not going down without a fight," I said, getting in fighting stance. I clenched my fist and prepared to get myself out of this. I began thinking of exits and where I could have gone from that moment. At that point, it was too late. They circled around me completely.
"We'll see about that..." the speedster said with a pause. Out of the silence, the Reverse Flash yelled: "Now...". Without hesitation, an arrow came from above and shot into my leg, causing me to fall on one knee. I winced in pain and gripped my leg as I tried to rip the arrow out. "Fast acting," he said with a smile as I began to grow weak and fell onto my back. "Sleep tight...". His familiar voice rang through my ear as the warehouse around me faded to black.
I blinked my eyes a few times and adjusted to the light. I was no longer in the warehouse. The lighting was dark, lit by a few torches that lined the cage like structure. I turned my head and saw my friends beside me, laying on the uncomfortably hard ground. We were stripped of our suits and placed in matching clothes, similar to pajamas. We all seemed to have woken up around the same time. I stood up and dusted the dirt off myself, as my friends did the same. I looked around at the scenery. Guards walked around with dogs and other prisoners walked around the cage.
"You guys alright?" I asked, looking around at my friends. They nodded, fixing their clothing that had been soiled and wrinkled.
"Power dampening dog collars...That's new..." Barry said as he tugged at the device around his neck. We all had them.
"They help in case you try to escape, too," a voice replied from the other side of the fence. We turned around to meet the figure of the Dark Archer. He stood next to the Reverse Flash. "What's wrong? Not used to being so trapped?" the speedster asked. "Now you know how I felt. Remember Flashpoint?" the Reverse Flash asked.
"We know that if you wanted to kill us, you wouldn't have put us in this cage,"I said, looking around. "You obviously didn't have any intent to kill us."
"Consider yourselves leverage. We need Supergirl's cooperation, and if she doesn't comply, we'll use you guys for reasoning".
"What do you need her for?" Alex asked, stepping forward. She looked deeply concerned.
"To save my wife's life," The Dark Archer said.
"The General is dying," said the Reverse Flash.
"Too much solar radiation..." I said, drifting off into my thoughts.
"But we can save her, and that's what we plan to do. All she needs is a new heart."
"Your 'super friends', Kara, is the perfect donor."
"Stay away from my sister!" Alex demanded. The Reverse Flash chuckled.
"All of you, so loyal..."
"That's why you stole the prism..." I said, putting the pieces together. "You wanted to duplicate a red sun and weaken our Kara so it would make it easier for you to cut her into bits." I pointed at the man and walked up to the edge of the cage. I was only a few inches away from the Reverse Flash.
"I'm gonna end you..." the Reverse Flash laughed in my face.
"You already made the mistake of being a hero. Taking the high road doesn't pay..." the Reverse Flash said before turning around. "Enjoy your stay...You'll be hearing from us very, very soon," he replied before a breach opened up and the two hopped through.
At that moment, a whistle blew and we turned our attention to the rest of those trapped. They began to get in line. Guard with dogs began circling around us.
"Before we figure out a way to get out of here, we need to figure out where we are." I examined the scene. These guards looked different than the ones we saw on our earth.
"Guys...We're not in Central City anymore...".
"Yeah...Tell me about it..." Jax scoffed.
"No, I'm serious...I think we're on Earth-X."
