Chapter Three

•Derek's POV•

I woke up to someone calling me at two a.m. "H-hello?" I said half asleep. "Is this Derek?" Said someone who sounded nervous. I didn't recognize the voice. "Y-yes. This is him." I said. "This is Trenton. I'm coming to pick you up. I'll be there in fifteen minutes. Hurry. Tavonda has been in an accident." Said Trenton. Time stopped. I felt as if my heart had just disappeared. I didn't understand. But I had to hurry.

*10 minutes later*

"Hey! Get in!" Trenton yells as I walk out the door. "I'm coming!" I said as I ran to get in. "Trenton, what the hell happened to Tavo?!" I yelled. Trenton sped up and passed a red light. "She had an asthma attack and couldn't find her inhaler." Trenton said. I only stared in shock. I was glad it wasn't a suicide attempt. But I was...crying.

•Tavonda's POV•

I need to find my I-inhaler. I-I can't breathe. I-

"Fancie!" I hear my brother say. I want to say I'm ok. But I can't form the words. The light is fading from my vision.

•Derek's POV•

When we get to the hospital I'm a nervous wreck. I want to know if Tavonda will be ok. Trenton just went to check on her. Those damn doctors said only family could visit right now. I look up as Trenton walks to me and says, "The doctor said she'll be fine. She can see you in about thirty minutes." I was so happy to hear that and I was so excited to see her.

*30 minutes later*

"Boo!!" I yell. She looked at me and smiled but I could see pain in her eyes. "Dweeb!" She tried to yell back. "No no don't hurt yourself. I'm glad your ok." She looked at me and all I did was stare. She looked terrified...and in pain.

We stay in the quiet for a few minutes before she said, "Derek. I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what? you did nothing wrong. You couldn't help that it happened." I said. "But...I scared you. You've been crying. I can tell." She said.

•Tavonda's POV•

"But....I scared you. You've been crying. I can tell." I said. Derek looked at me with puffy bloodshot eyes and I started to cry. "What's wrong? Don't cry. It's ok." He said.

He got in the hospital bed beside me and pulled me into his arms. "You'll be ok. I'm here and so is your brother. We won't let anything bad happen. Ok?" Derek said softly. I dried my eyes and said, "ok." I soon found myself falling asleep with my head on his chest.
