-Les❤️I JUMPED UP TO GET the door.
I felt nervous and awkward because I've never taken anyone up there before. Let alone a boy. At night.
"Hey Ashton, you made it." I smiled at him and he returned it with an even brighter one.
"Of course I did. Ready to go or is there any parent I have to meet firs-"
"Actually there is." Amelia kept her eyes glued to the TV.
Oh Lord, what is she doing....
"I'm Amelia. Her best friend. Your Ashton, right?"
"Yes. Yes I am."
"Where are you young kids going?" She asked rising from the couch and looking at him straight in the eyes.
"Amelia, we are going to The Intersect to work on a science project." I told her, looking at her eyes firmly so that she would carry on watching her telenovela.
Oh, did I mention? Amelia was Hispanic. That's one of the reasons she was acting this way.
"What time is she coming home, Ashton?"
"Probably nine being the latest."
"Fine. Go on before I change my mind." As I closed the door behind me, I gave Ame a dirty look to which she only responded to by smiling.
"Sorry about that." I laughed and I could feel my cheeks getting hotter.
What did Amelia think we would do anyway?
"Don't worry about. So which way is it?"
"Just up here." I pointed upfront as I started climbing the rocky mountains. He followed behind me.
I had a feeling this would be a great night.

"This place is incredible..." He was dazed as he looked down at the city and up at the stars. I laughed at his reaction.
"What?"
"Oh nothing. It's just that I've never brought anyone up here. Your reaction was priceless." I chuckled and looked down at the city below us.
I drifted into thought. "It's where the mountains stop and the city goes."
"Did you come up with that name? The Intersect?"
"How'd you know?"
"Lucky guess." He grinned and came closer to me. We sat down and watched the stars. It was quiet, but peaceful.
"So we agree on constellations, then?" He looked at me and at that moment I felt like he was looking into my soul.
"Even though I know you just made that up, sure." I smiled at him and looked at his beautiful blue eyes.
Wait, why did I just say that?
"If you tell me why I couldn't come to your house, I'll tell you why you couldn't come to mine." He said that so gently it made me shuffle a bit closer to him. We were sitting closer to each other than before, looking at the tiny cars and buildings below us.
"You go first then." It was a moment before he started to speak.
"I don't live with my mom or dad."
He paused, but just for a second. "I live with my older brother. His name is Kevin and he's twenty-three. He usually brings girls to his house every night and I didn't....I didn't want them to bother you. I didn't want you to be somewhere you felt uncomfortable. Especially since I know how uncomfortable it could get."
"I'm sorry... If I may ask, what happened?"
"My parents got into a car accident when they were headed to Las Vegas to make a deal for their job, or something. My brother was above age and he became my legal guardian. Your turn."
"I don't really know, actually." He was looking straight at me with those beautiful blue eyes of his.
He looked compassionate and I felt like if I fell, he would catch me.
It was getting harder and harder to brush these feelings away.
"My mom left me when I was born." A tear rolled down my face. It was hard to control them when I talked about such an overpowering subject. "I never knew why. But secretly, my dad knew. He knows why mom left me. He promised me that if I found out one day, it wouldn't be from him."
At this point, I couldn't stop the tears. I was a silent crier. I always cried with a subtle look on my face.
It showed that I was so hurt that some of the hard pain didn't affect me anymore.
But then something unexpected happened.
He touched my cheek.
Wiping my tears.
Wiping the hurt.
Wiping the sadness.
Away...
"We only met today but, I want you to know that I'm here. I'll always be here, Scarlett."
I let out a fake chuckle. "Sorry for crying. This is stupid."
"Scarlett..." He looked at me, raising my chin. "Tell me what you feel. Don't lie to me, now."
"I feel hurt." At this moment I started breaking down.
"I miss her, Ashton. I want to find her. I..." We looked at each other. He touched my cheek gently. It was electrifying. I leaned into his chest and laid my head there.
We sat there looking at the stars.
Looking at the city.
In peace.
