New Emotions

Aaahh what a wonderful feast I had yesterday. What did you guys have for Thanksgiving?

          THE FACT THAT I said woah in my mind kind of confused me. What the heck am I feeling?, I thought. I brushed this strange feeling off and politely smiled.

        "H-Hi" I didn't quite know why I was stuttering or why I could barley speak. This was probably because I had never met him. I could tell he was kind of shy, too.

       "Okay class, now that we assigned partners, let me clarify that the partners that you have will be with you the whole year. I didn't plan on switching partners but, since we have an even class, let it be, right?" She let out a light laugh.

"Anyway class, this big project will be on Astrology. You and your partner will have to come up with a science project that has to do with anything in the sky or outer space."

She glanced at her silver watch. "For the rest of the class come up with your theme. Good luck!" She sat down after that and started typing away on her big computer.

    "So what's your name?" My new partner asked.

    "I'm Scarlett. You?"

     "Ashton. Ashton Wills."

    "What do you think we should do for the project? Are you into galaxies, planets-"

   "I like the stars. I would go out at night and watch them all the time in the summer. Sorry for interrupting you." He lightly chuckled.

That laugh...Snap out of it!

   "Oh," I let out a shaky laugh. He had an affect on me like no one did before.  "I love the stars, too. So we'll meet at your house?"

   "I don't think it would be a great idea. It's a bit complicated." He didn't look as happy as before for one second, and if you blinked, you probably wouldn't have noticed.

He smiled after. A smile that I felt took me out of Earth and back.

   "Oh. I would offer my house but...it's..." I didn't know how to explain my situation to him.

   "Complicated?" He offered.

   "Yeah. That."

   "Where would we meet, then?" I thought long and hard as though I had forgotten my favorite place to look up at the stars.

    "The Intersect." I said proudly.

    "Where's that?"

    "You'll find out soon enough." The bell rang and we looked at each other not knowing what to do. He quickly took out a piece of paper and a pencil.

    "Here's my number. Call me when you get home. We can meet there tonight."

  "Yeah, definitely." As I walked out of the classroom, Ms.Rusk winked at me. I knew she was up to something, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

     So there I was. In the hallway heading to my next class with a phone number from a boy in my hand. The first boy to give me his phone number.

Ashton Wills.

A boy I knew I would never forget.

    Amelia plopped down on my couch flipping through the channels.

    "Ame, I'll be right back. I gotta make a phone call."

    "Kk."

     I walked upstairs into my hallway and dialed his number. I had a few doubts and honestly, I didn't think he would actually pick up the -

    "Hello?" As I heard his voice from the line, I got startled.

    "Hey, is this Ashton?"

  "Yup. So where is this intersect thing?" I couldn't help but smile at his wording. 

   "It's The Intersect. Treat it with respect." I laughed.

   "Right, sorry." I could feel him smile through his voice.

  "Maybe we should meet at the school and I'll show you? It's kind of tricky getting there."

  "I don't really like the idea of you walking in the dark. How about I come pick you up and we'll walk there together?"

  "Sure. It's not like I have never walked alone before, though." I smirked.

  "Text me the address and I'll be there in 20."

  "Okay. See ya later."

   "Bye Scarlett." I texted him the address and as I lifted my head I saw my best friend staring at me.

   "Who was that?" She asked with a grin on her face.

   "They changed my partner."

   "Who is it now?"

   "A boy." I didn't want to give her too much information, knowing that she would gush and ship us together like any best friend would do.

  "What is this boy's name?"

  "Ashton."

She mumbled as she walked off, "Ashton and Scarlett. I like the sound of that."

I threw a pillow at her face.

"To-shay. Hey, let me ask you something. Why'd you get so scared when he answered the phone?"

I couldn't say anything because I didn't know what to say. "Do you...like him or something?" She pursued.

"How would I be clear if I've never even liked anyone before?"

"What are you feeling?"

   What the heck was I feeling?

Just then the doorbell rang. That was quick.
