I let out a sigh of satisfaction as I laid on the the blanket below the bright green grass of my backyard and got kissed by the sun's lukewarm rays.

I had missed my usual comfy summer look of sandals, jean shorts, a tang top and a red plaid shirt over it.

I was so happy to be-

"Babe, you start packing yet?" Ash opened the patio door and walked over to me.

I muffled a few unclear words and turned back to the sun.

"Didn't you say you had planned being responsible this year?" He laid down next to me and looked at the bright blue sky.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Ash and I had turned seventeen a few months back.

"Rude. I am responsible." I sat up and crossed my arms. Ashton teasingly looked at my chest over my crossed arms and smirked.

"Whatever you say." He walked away whistling.

"Oh you piece of..." I ran to him and pushed him on the ground.

Me on top of him. "Fine, don't come to me when you need help fitting all your stuff."

"Oh, Scarlett." He brushed a piece of my dirty blonde hair behind my ear and leaned in to kiss me. I think we were there for quite a while.

"Oh, um, Scarlett. I was going to ask for your help in my garden but, you tell me when you're done, okay?" I turned to look and to my surprise, it was my neighbor.

Yikes, I know.

"Yeah, Ms. Rhyler, I'll be right over." She nodded in approval and gave me one of those 'kids these days' look.

Ashton bursted out laughing when she was gone. "Yeah, super responsible."

Kevin was home for the summer so sometimes, Scar and I would head over there and spend the night.

But, in this case, since we were packing, there was some stuff here I wanted to take.

Little did I know the eccentric thing that would be waiting for us at his house.

"Yeah, the grey hat is definitely here but I think the-" Scarlett stopped speaking when I opened the door.

"Yeah, same!" We found Amelia and Kevin huddled up in the living room watching Netflix. They were really close to each other. Almost too close.

Kevin cleared his throat and Amelia blushed as they quickly moved away from each other.

"Hey bro, what's up?" Kevin asked, trying to move away from any questions he knew I would eventually ask.

I decided to go along with it. "Just here to pick up some things. You?"

"I'm just...just here." He smiled awkwardly and lowered the TV volume.

"Scarlett, now that you're here, may we talk?" Amelia looked down, a face of guilt stuck on her face.
