When the morning arrived, a feast was once again held. It was a merry time for the Congress as [F/n], and the Bridgers ate their breakfast quietly in the long table, while senators and congressmen were walking around and chatting with their fellow politicians.
When [F/n] and her companions were done eating, they rested for a while before leaving. After that, they informed the Congress that they were now off to travel.
"Travel safely!"
"Be very careful!"
"We'll pray for your success to the forefathers!"
Almost every political figure in the Congress went to shake hands with [F/n], Ade and Abbey, mostly [F/n]. Their wishes and hopes for a fruitful journey were genuinely uttered. None of them wished her ill intentions. However, one among [F/n]'s companions did, and she glared secretly from behind whenever [F/n] received excessive attention.
They left the Fortress of Congress with pleasant thoughts, ready to face what the day has stored for them. As they exited through the door to the Fortress' garden, everyone waved goodbye to them and wished them a safe journey.
[F/n] excitedly bounced on her steps as she sprinted down the stairs, the wind tossing her hair. The trees towered above her, the leaves swaying softly as she smiled freely. It was just like the woods back home, but the forest here was more prominent and seemingly livelier. As the birds tweeted happily and the animals hid when they passed, the forest somehow promised them a great day ahead.
Ade watched as [F/n] caressed the barks and the shrubs that she passed by, feeling the nature around her. He smiled as he gazed at her affectionately.
Abbey was enjoying everything herself, but she wasn't a fan of the insects that lurked around. She lagged behind the two, weary of pests and bugs and caught up with her brother. However, a creepy-crawly immediately caught her attention as it scuttled toward her. It had many legs and a giant head, its pincers pinching together; the sight of it was startling.
The centipede crept closer to her, eliciting a screech of fear from Abbey as she ran away from it. She squeaked and went around a tree. But army ants were crawling all over the bark, causing her to grimace as she staggered back.
Hearing the frightened squeals of his sister, Ade looked around and saw her running to him with traumatized eyes. "What happened?" He asked worriedly, rushing to her as she immediately started pointing to the ground somewhere.
"A-a thing..." She gulped, eyes wild. "I don't know what that was, but it was huge!"
When [F/n] heard her companions from a distance, she looked over her shoulder and was surprised that she had gone ahead of them. About to call up to them, she was disrupted when something white appeared through her peripheral vision. She whirled around to see what it was.
There stood a glowing being that contrasted the greens and browns of the forest, its white light very captivating to the eyes. Pawing the dead grasses like a horse, it was as big as an ordinary dog, but it had neither eyes nor mouth; it had no distinguishing features to identify it like an animal. However, its head was turned to [F/n], its tail moving from side to side in a gentle motion, as though inviting her to it.
[E/c] orbs immediately glazed over at the sight of it. Hypnotized, [F/n]'s mind was emptied of thoughts but was occupied by one voice.
'There you are,' it said, echoing in the confinement of her skull. 'My brothers and sisters have waited for your return. I am delighted to have seen you first.' It then walked away, its tail motioning for her to follow. 'You're looking for Annette, aren't you? Follow me, and I'll lead you to her.'
