The moment that Zsar stepped closer to them, Nicolai felt a raging fury towards the man. It was a hatred gathered from Ade's deepest heart, but Nicolai shared the feeling nonetheless. Quickly raising his gun right at Zsar's face, he snarled.

"Don't get any closer, or I'll shoot you," he warned threateningly, his voice deadly. Tensed, he pushed [F/n] back and guided her to walk backward little by little. They gained a small distance from Zsar for comfort.

The old man laughed, his voice rumbling in his chest. "A dog that barks for its owner is loyal, but for it to bite is faithful." Subtly, he referred to [F/n] as he eyed her like a bad man. Suddenly, he raised his rifle in the air.

At that moment, triggers were clicked and bullets were shot.

"Do you hear that?" Chaz mumbled as he raised his eyes to his mother, who was just conversing with him.

Quinn looked away with a lingering smirk on her face. "I hear that they've been captured, yes," she responded with excitement. Straightening her spine, she headed out of the room, speaking on her way out. "Don't you ever leave the Palace, Chaz. Stay here until that girl and Bridger will be dealt with."

"Quinn," Chaz called to his mother, serious as he rose to his feet. "What are you going to do to her?"

Sharply, she turned, displeased that he addressed her with her name. Her dark hues hurled a threatening look at him.

The glare in her eyes didn't scare him though. In fact, he relished at it and smiled. "What are you going to do with [F/n]?"

"Why do you care?" Quinn snapped irritably, eyeing him up and down, regarding him as someone inferior to her. "She would have been useful if Caesar had not denied her place to be president. But if you wish to know," she crossed her arms over her chest with a glower, "she will end up like Caesar."

There was a click, from Chaz's mouth as he dropped his smile and advanced to her. His features were lax, exhibiting a blank visage, yet he expelled such a toxic aura.

Noticing the threatening vibes from him, she stepped back. "Stop there!" She yelled hoarsely, intimidated.

He presumed, the corners of his lips rising deviously. When her eyes grew round in fear and warning to halt his intention, Chaz stopped in respect of her desperate wish. "Oh mother, I wasn't going to hurt you," he cooed, smiling at her sweetly as he brushed her cheek with a cold touch. "I just wish that you bring [F/n] in my care. If not, I hope I won't have my hands on my hat to draw my sword on you."

"You spiteful fiend, how dare you to talk to me like that!" Her voice rose to a pitch, eyes as big as coins as she subtly stepped forward, jabbing her index finger at him. Fear swirled in her dark hues but was masked with anger.

Delighted by her reaction, he chuckled and tried to calm her down by acting submissive.

"I won't tolerate such behavior, Chaz! Remember that I took care of you and wasted years to bring you up as a reliable man. Be grateful that I didn't disown you even after interacting with that Normal girl!" Hyped up, Quinn walked out and slammed the door close before she can say more words than necessary.

After getting a scolding from her, he was left in [F/n]'s room to ponder about things. Closing his eyes, he lied on the bed and clasped his hands over his abdomen.

Thoughts swirled in his mind. Memories played. Voices of youth echoed in his ears, making him smile genuinely. It was about her, [F/n]. As someone who was confined at home in most of his childhood, Chaz rarely interacted with people. His distant cousins, Asher and Vester, along with the others, had visited him often. Quinn had educated him at home; she had been strict and scary.
