Given his actions, [F/n] didn’t falter to choose the choice that she thought was wise. She gently pushed him away as she shook her head in disappointment at his attitude. “I’m going home,” she announced sternly, staring at him coldly.
Chaz stepped back; his face fell at her words. His body seemed to weaken at the hit of her message, however, he quickly changed his posture to seem unaffected. “I understand,” he uttered genuinely, putting up a small smile. “I hope you forget everything that happened in here.”
She could see the hurt in his eyes, afflicting with her own emotions. “But before I leave, I want to see my mother.”
“I’ll gladly accompany you.” He bowed his head, acting formally.
As he stood before her, he suddenly felt distant. It was as if there was a wall separating her from him like he was intangible; just a person she sees in her dreams. “I want to see Ade too,” she added hastily, faltering to look at him any longer.
“Do you want me to lead you to him, or bring him to you?” He asked with a proper tone, gazing at her like a servant.
“Bring him to me,” she said, “please.”
“I’ll return with him shortly.” Quietly, he walked out of the room, closing the door carefully behind him and leaving her alone.
[F/n] didn’t turn around. Instead, she wiped away the lone tear that stained her cheek. She didn’t understand what was going on in the Country, or what’s going to happen, so while she can handle the situation, she has to leave. No doubt that she will be leaving a world that she will miss, but she will continue living with her grandparents; and hopefully, she will live with her mother too.
A heavy feeling clung in her heart, weighing it down. To lighten her chest, she approached the mirror and was faced with Annette, who was looking at her with a small smile.
“How are you doing, [F/n]?” The reflection asked, like what she usually questions.
Somehow, [F/n] felt distant with her mother. The realization that this reflection is not her mother, but just a piece of her, made her feel miserable. “Mom, I’m coming to see you.” Placing her palm flat on the mirror, she smiled.
“I’m excited to see you.” But Annette frowned. “Did you find my body?”
[F/n] shook her head softly, but felt a pang at her mother’s implication that she's dead. “No, but Lyrah will return you to us. I’ll finally get to be with you. It’s been so hard, mom. Without you and dad, it’s been so hard…” The last word was spoken emotionally, in a helpless whimper. Sobbing, she let the tears fall. Her hand automatically smeared it off before Chaz and Ade could walk in on her.
Annette couldn’t help but share her daughter’s sorrow. Her bright blue eyes shone in unshed tears. “I know that it’s hard, [F/n], but you’re here and alive despite all the years of my absence,” she responded with a motherly tone that [F/n] never heard in all her life. “It’s not easy to be an orphan, but I hope Zacharias and Sarah are taking well care of you.”
“Yes, Gramps just confessed about what really happened… ah, I can’t handle this.” More tears leaked from her eyes and continued down her face. [F/n] turned away, burying her head in her shirt to dry her eyes.
