As early as dawn, they woke up and prepared themselves for another day of trekking. [F/n] reached into the top hat and found crackers in her hands upon pulling it out, then a bag full of nuts. They ate it quietly and continued the journey, basking in the limited streaks of sunshine that penetrated through the canopy of the forest. Every second was refreshing, the wind blowing past them ever so gently, the animals talking in whispers, and the trees dancing with the breeze. If it were possible to live here, [F/n] would build a tree house on the tallest and strongest tree.
Zacharias had always promised her a tree house when she was young, but he was too lazy to act on his words. Sometimes, when [F/n] would see a tree that has potential to hold a house on it, she would tell Zacharias about it, but the old man would say to her that he might break his bones before he could build her a tree-house.
When they trekked on, [F/n] noticed that they were still in the forest; there was no sign of anything ahead. Slowing on her pace, she let Ade and Abbey catch up with her. "Ade, where are we heading exactly? When are we going to reach the island?" She queried, looking up at him.
"Please tell me that we're close now," Abbey commented, pinching her pants as she grimaced. "I don't really like wearing this, and my feet hurt."
"It's Nicolai," Ade corrected, turning sharply to [F/n], who returned a frown. Looking ahead, he saw the endless stretch of the ocean. "We're almost there. Just gotta cross the water before we find the island." He pointed ahead.
"Water? You mean ocean," Abbey uttered, aghast as she faced [F/n]. "How are we going to cross that?!"
Chuckling at Abbey's horrorstricken reaction, [F/n] shared her concern. "Hopefully your dad packed us some lotion to avoid dry skin," she voiced out, holding the hat on her head. She then turned to Ade. "How many days would it take to find the island?"
Picturing the oldest map that Ade had memorized since Nicolai wished that his mother did not burn it accidentally so it could have been of use. " If it's real, we can find it in a day." Giving [F/n] a serious gaze, his orbs reflected a warning for the future. "If it's not─"
Abbey put a hand on her lips as she imagined herself in vast water, making her feel sick. "The island has got to be real," she spoke. "If we're not going to find it, I'm not coming along."
"How do we exactly find Lusia's island when we have no map?" [F/n] asked worriedly, furrowing her eyebrows as she thought about it. "Oh wait, let me search for it." Taking the hat in her hand, she slipped her entire arm in it as the hat giggled.
Ade smiled internally, feeling himself brimming with a pleasant feeling that she depended on his knowledge, but Nicolai did not portray the emotion. "You're doing everything wrong," he told her blatantly as he snatched the hat from her arm. "When you put your hand in there," he explained irritably, "you have to think of the object that you want to have so the hat can bring it up for you to grab."
Similarly annoyed by his harsh tone, [F/n] crossed her arm over her chest. "Check if we have a map."
He put the thought in his head as he searched for it in the hat, but when Ade could not grab anything, he pulled it out and frowned. "We don't have any," he informed, handing it back to her.
This brought an immediate scowl in [F/n]'s face as she took the hat. She thought of Amos and cursed his name for not providing them enough. Come to think of it, did he offer them plenty of their needs as he had said? To lift her concern, she put a hand in it and thought of a map again. Immediately, her fingers brushed something crispy. Curious, she pulled it out, but was disappointed when it was just a thin, crispy paper in her hand; the words were written: You didn't feed me a map.
