Leo woke up to the sound of death. Really, he could hear something outside of his cave being slowly and painfully tortured. He got up and strolled out in the beautiful sunshine, only to find his Beautiful Sunshine waiting for him. Calypso had her hands on her hips, lips pursued in a scorn, and was heavily tapping her foot on the ground. Now, you might be thinking: Leo! You're in deep shist! On the contrary, this was a normal greeting he received every morning from his love. Today was actually one of her better mornings; she'd sometimes come storming into the cave, yelling for Leo to get his *insert choice words that cannot be repeated* up.But, the abnormal thing today was that they had a visitor. A muscular guy, caramel brown hair and golden eyes. He looked quite elated for a dude about to get killed. He was kneeling down next to Calypso's side, hands bound, cuts and bruises all over. Calypso held a knife to his throat that was already dotted with his blood, and yet he had a smirk on his face. He lifted one finger and pointed to Leo, laughing.
"You. It's you. Leo Valdez. And they all think you're dead..." He trailed off, uncontrollably wheezing to himself. The more Leo looked at him, the more he realized how bad of shape he was in. His eyes were bloodshot, bags under his eyes that would make Gucci sob, his hair an absolute rats nest. His slender fingers were shaking, and his hands turning purple and blue. You could see each and every rib in his rib cage, and it didn't help that he was shirtless. On the verge of dying and he still has a better body than Leo. Why was the world so cruel to him? But, this guy was not doing too good. Calypso didn't need to do a thing to him, nature would take its course in a couple of hours. Although he looked deranged, Leo had a feeling he knew something vital.
Leo knelt down next to him. "What's your name? And how do you know who I am?" The man studied Leo's face, taking his time to respond. He licked his chapped lips and made direct eye contact with Leo.
"I am Castor. My brother, Pollux, is dead. Long story short, he was immortal and I was not. I died a mortal death, and he begged the Lord Zeus to bring me back. Zeus gave me some of my brothers immortality. And now he is dead. Turns out-" Castor started to wheeze again. "That our lives were tied together! Just when I'd thought I was finally free of him..." He slumped down, wallowing in his tragic life. One question kept nagging in the back of Leo's mind though...
"Why would you want to be free of your brother? He bargained with Zeus himself and brought you back to life." Leo mused. If only he had had someone vouch for him like that, he wouldn't have had to use the Physician's Cure.
"Pollux? He's a bad brother, bad bad brother. He enjoys hurting people, like your friends! They need you, Chosen One." Wait just a hot minute. Did he just call Leo the 'Chosen One'? His friends... He had been trying to fix up Festus so he could be reunited with them at last. He was almost done...
"What's wrong with my friends? Where are they? And what in Hades name is a 'Chosen One'-" Castor started coughing manically. Drops of blood sprinkled the ground in front of him as he coughed. Time was more limited than Leo thought. He grabbed ahold of Castor's shoulders and supported his weight. Castor fell into Leo's arms, shaking and wheezing. His breaths were short, his eyes pooling with tears. He mustered any last strength he had and lifted his left arm, cupping Leo's face with his hand. A single tear escaped from his eye.
"Go. Find them. Protect them. They need you, and you need them." Castor paused and took a long breath. More tears fell onto his cheeks and he closed his eyes, letting them. His body tensed for a split second, then he finally let go. Leo held him for a moment and processed what had just happened. Something bigger was happening here, something Leo was already apart of. His friends were in danger, and so was he. Leo gently set Castor down, his body instantly disintegrating into golden ash. A light breeze came and took him away. Leo felt bad for Castor. All he ever wanted was a life free from his evil brother. Right when he thought he had gotten it... Leo looked at Calypso and knew what needed to be done.
"Grab my tool belt, babe. We've got a dragon to fix, and friends to find."
Short and sweet. Who's excited for Leo to come back?! Thanks for all of the reads and follows loves (:
