Percy frantically woke up, beads of sweat on his forehead and chills all down his body. It took him a moment to realize that it was just a dream; everything was okay. He thought back to the nightmare he just experienced.

It was nighttime on the ship. Percy was walking up the stairs to the deck. He heard voices, so he crept up the stairs as quietly as he could. There were two people standing in the center; both female. He couldn't understand what they were talking about, but their hushed tones gave him an idea.

Percy adjusted his angle in hopes of seeing who the two women were, and immediately wished he hadn't. It was Esmeralda, the witch that kidnapped Chiron and Lupa. The ultimate shock was who she was talking to: Piper. Piper looked so scared and vulnerable, and Esmeralda was feeding off of it. A green fog filled the air, engulfing the two girls. Piper looked directly at him and disappeared.

Percy jumped out of bed, in need of something to take his mind off of his horrifying night. He opened his door and saw his was the only one open. Now, Percy was never the first one awake. He walked towards the dining hall, craving a sweet treat. He approached Piper's room. Part of him was tempted to crack open the door and confirm that his dream was in fact just a dream. He resisted the urge and trudged into the dining hall to obtain his early morning snack.

After getting his snack, Percy made his way back to his room. He passed Piper's room, a feeling of 'what if' creeping into the back of his mind. Once again, he ignored it and continued on to his room.

Percy slightly cracked open the door to his room and went directly for his bed. Big mistake. His droopy eyes began to close, and eventually, darkness took over his vision.

"Wake up, Percy! WAKE UP!" A voice shouted in Percy's face, awakening him from his deep sleep. There was a smashed cookie to the right of him, crumbs all over the bed's comforter. What a shame.

He focused on the person ruining his peaceful slumber, and it was Hazel. She looked panicked; her eyes were wide and full of fear. Percy arose from his bed and rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes.

"Percy, come on. We have a problem. A big, big problem." Hazel solemnly said and left the room. Percy raced to find some clean clothes, a hard task indeed for him. Once he found some that didn't smell too terrible, he ran to the dining hall. Everyone was already in there, sitting in utter silence. They were all looking down, fiddling with their hands as a form of distraction. Percy got to his seat and looked at each of his friends.

"What's the big problem? Why aren't you guys talking?" He mused.

Annabeth looked up at him with sad eyes. "You didn't notice? We're missing someone." She gazed back at her lap, a tear escaping from her eye. Percy analyzed his surroundings, checking to see if all of his friends were there. Annabeth, Jason, Leo. Check. Hazel and Frank. Check. Percy suddenly realized the only person not there was...

"Piper? No. No, no, no." Percy ran his fingers through his hair, pulling it as tight as he could. That feeling he had to check on her... How could he be so naive? Dreams aren't just dreams to a demigod; he should've known to immediately go to her and reassure himself that she was okay.

"Guys, last night-" Percy started but was cut off by another voice.

"Exactly how I imagined you demigods would be. Worried over your dear Piper being gone. How cute." At the head of the table was an Iris message, with a lady sitting in front of them. Her voice was so familiar... And Percy recognized that outfit she was wearing...

"Esmeralda. What have you done with Piper?!" Percy maliciously said to her. He prayed that his dream wasn't reality; that Piper didn't go voluntarily.

Esmeralda let out a soft laugh, clearly amused by his allegation.

"Oh, Percy. You know quite well what happened to Piper. But I'll enlighten the rest of your friends. Piper made the noble decision to sacrifice herself up to me. She knew her being the Chosen One was a great danger to you all, and couldn't bear to see you guys in harm's way. We made a deal. She comes with me and obliges to do whatever I ask of her, and I will not bring any more physical harm to you guys. Chiron and Lupa have been returned to their rightful homes, hopefully still alive." She smiled coldly at the demigods.

She looked behind her and gave a signal to some unseen person.

"I'm sure you all are dying to see Piper, so I'll show you." A man brought out a girl, gripping her arm and dragging her along. She looked unharmed, her clothes were dirty and torn, but overall she seemed physically fine. She couldn't make eye contact with any of her friends as she was taken over. Piper was placed beside Esmeralda, her head tipped down and tears streaming down her cheeks.

Esmeralda draped her arm across Piper's shoulders. "Piper chose this. To save you guys. Finally, a hero made the right decision. Take a good look at her, because you won't get another one." Esmeralda grabbed Piper's chin and lifted her face up. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying so much. Her face didn't have its normal glow; just a dull, lifeless appearance. She looked at her friends with dismay. A tear fell onto her cheek as she mouthed the words: 'I'm so sorry.'

Esmeralda signaled for Piper to be taken away once more. The same man came and took her away, and Piper didn't look back. That, or couldn't.

As soon as Piper was gone, Esmeralda grinned from ear to ear. She shook her head and silently laughed to herself.

"What a foolish girl. Face it, demigods. There is no saving you guys. Piper has just given me the means to become the most powerful person in the universe. Above all of the gods, even Zeus himself! I did promise her that I wouldn't physically harm any of you. Don't think that this is the end of me. Enjoy your next few days of peace, because they'll be the last you'll ever see. Ta-ta, young heroes." Esmeralda clawed through the Iris message with her sharp, crimson red nails, and left the 6 half-bloods to wonder what inevitable doom they were to soon face.
