Chapter 4 Part III -- The Evil Maid

The flame formed a face more evil than a devil and wrapped around Natsu. Crack! Crack! Crack! From the roaring of the fiery devil, came the burning sound of bones and skin. Lucy panicked at the sight. Her eyes swelled from the effect of the smoke and at the thought of losing Natsu. 

Squinting her eyes, she tried to search for some rug to put down the fire. "Happy, do something!" 

"The best part is about to happen, Lucy. Just watch!" Happy flew around her, looking thrilled.

A cacophony of sounds infused the room. Crack! Crack! Crack! Then, came a sucking sound, followed by a weird timbre like someone munching on a biscuit. Three heartbeats later, to Lucy's surprise, the flame thinned until it was wiped out. Natsu was miraculously still in one piece.

"That Fire Boy, he's insane! He ate his own flame!" The Vanish Brothers croaked out.

"Thank you so much for your meal. Now, it's your turn to go to Hell. Fire Dragon's Wind!" Natsu sped towards the brothers like a torpedo that had been unleashed, with fire swirling around his body. The attack sent them flying out of the hole on the roof.

The entire roof and the golden statue blasted apart at the impact. "Ah, crap! I overdid it again!" Rubbing the back of his neck, Natsu tried very hard to look sorry, but the glint in his eyes betrayed him. He was, after all, a Fairy Tail's mage, who took pleasure in destroying stuff.

"My minions! My house!" Duke Everlue spun around under the opened roof.

Lucy darted towards Natsu and hugged him. "Thank goodness, you're alive!"

"Silly girl! Do you think that I'm made of paper?" Natsu caressed her hair.

Duke Everlue tried to snatch the book from Lucy's grasp. "Nasty fairies, what's mine is mine!"

"You have to get through me first!"Natsu held out his hands and blocked Duke Everlue's attack. 

"Natsu... Aaargh!" Lucy screamed, as the pain at the back of her head returned, so did those voices.

Gee, it's so difficult to get through you in the Human World. Do you know how much time I'd spent in freeing my legs from your stupid cells on my way here? scolded the stern voice.

That's because you keep complaining that you didn't notice those tangled cells. Well, Lucy, did you say Hello to Natsu on my behalf?

"I-- Uhm--"

Save that for the future! We came here to tell you the secret that we've found in the book.

The two took the turn to whisper their discovery to Lucy, with the later "oohing" and "aahing" in concurrent. When the cloned version of Lucys returned to their world, Lucy jerked back to reality with a shudder, only to realize three pairs of eyes were now fixating on her.

"Evil Luigy, you speak to yourself."

"I'll explain later." Lucy lowered Natsu's hand and shouted at the duke, "You're a disgrace to literature! How could you force Mr. Zaleon to write this book, singing all your contributions to the world, when all you did was scraping money illegally!"

Duke Everlue twirled his mustache as he said, "Indeed, I threatened him that if he didn't write properly, I'd revoke the citizenship of his entire family. That was because he didn't cooperate with me initially, talking nonsense about the pride of being an author."

"I don't get it at all." Natsu scratched his head. "Happy, what are they talking about?" 

"It means, Natsu, this Mr. Zaleon was forced to write an autobiography about Duke Everlue. He refused but had to oblige at the end for the sake of his family," Happy vocalized.
