I am in a chair by his bed, reading one of the books on his nightstand. He is expected to make a full recovery in less than three weeks. 'In time for Christmas' they said.

I look up as Sam pushes the door open and moves to sit on the edge of my ghost-boy's bed. He is sleeping, as he should be. It's eleven. I stand and return the book, Sam stares at the wall, I leave.

Tony catches me in the hall.

"Hey Barnes, can- can we?"

"I don't understand."

"Just follow me."

We make our way into his lab, and he sits on one of the tables.

"So, just wanted to make sure you were..."

"I'm fine Stark."

"You say that every time."

"So?"

"I say that every time too. We both know it's not true." He picks up the large glass decanter and pushes two glasses next to him. "What's going on?" He hands me a glass. I stare at it.

"Nothing."

He finishes his before I look up and when I do he's just staring at me.

"Mmhm." he muses, pouring another cupful. I sip at mine experimentally.

"Please leave me alone."

"Trust me Barnes, I don't want to be here just as much as you do."

"I know."

"What?"

"Sorry, it's just the tendon near your wrist is visible. You're breathing too quickly" and I can hear your heart from here

"Okay soldier boy, I'll give you one last chance and I'll leave you alone."

"I'm fine."

I set the empty glass down and walk away.

He doesn't move.
