"Michael! It's Nationals Week!" Jeremy ran up to Michael in his Color Guard outfit, flag, and rifle in hand.

"I know, we're gonna crush Middle Borough so hard they won't know what hit 'em! South Chicago High School has the best shows in STATE!" Michael was getting his shako on, bari sax on the grass and talking with Jeremy and Evan about Nationals.

"Do you think Oceanworld will be enough to beat them?" Evan asked. His stutter had almost stopped since joining Marching Band. He didn't know why but he wasn't about to complain.

"Of course it will, MBHS will probably be playing Scenes of Russia or Images of Ireland, 8th-grade pieces. We have the best college show around, they know that." Connor had his hair up in a messy bun and was doing Spot, Race and Romeos makeup while getting Katherine's hair up. He was the best in Color Guard, no one could deny that.

All the sections had their own nickname that even the band directors called them by. The pit was the Cavemen, Color Guard was the Newsies, the Marching Ensemble was the Chill Pills, and the directors, of course, were MAHM AND PAHPAH. They didn't mind.

There were some small rivalries, such as the one between Heather Chandler and Connor. She gets jealous that he's better than her at half the routine, and Connor is jealous she has the better quality rifle. He was stuck with one from 10+ years ago, while hers was brand-spanking-new. They never got into full-on fist-fights or anything, but the stink eye was very prominent between the two of them.

Everyone else was practically family. Everyone had their own "jobs" within their sections, which was fun at times.

In Pit, Church was the only one who never lost music, so he keeps track of everyone's music. Evan is the only logical one, so he is the main decision making person for the pit, such as deciding we shouldn't eat right before practice, or blow bubbles with our trumpets. Everyone likes Brooke, so she's the "Spokesperson". She's nice to everyone, and everyone is her friend. It's impossible to hate her. When you think of Pit, you think of Brooke.

For Marching Ensemble, Jake is the tallest and helps the shorter people with things like getting their instruments and other things they can't reach. Cunningham is the "repairman", he keeps his instrument in tip-top shape and loves polishing, cleaning, and refinishing instruments so he'll sneak others instruments away with a cleaning rag and the other members of the band will randomly find him in the bathroom cleaning an instrument or refinishing a guitar, replacing a reed and adding slide oil, it got to the point where he would make excuses, and he would make some weird excuse and they would say "You're making things up again, Arnold."

As for Color Guard, Connor is the "Boss". Everyone listens to him, he's the best at moves, and he's been there longest. Most of the members came from Brooklyn and have an accent, and they're amazing at dancing, so we call them the Newsies. When the directors hand out music, he yells out: Papes for the Newsies, line up! and they ask for them by the hundreds. Katherine is the "Mom" and is the reason Jack, Crutchie and Romeo aren't dead yet. Spot and Race are the weird uncles, bringing something new each week to play with or a weird food to try, usually ending is someone throwing up.
