Prologue

“Sir, why are you crying?” slowly, I turned to my right where I heard the voice of a little boy. I looked at the boy intently, siguro six years old pa lang ang bata. Mukhang kagigising lang nito.

“My daughter is at the ICU,” I answered shortly. Wala naman akong panahon para makakipagkwentuhan. All I need now is a miracle to save my little angel from danger.

“My mother is there also sir!” the boy replied. “She has cancer. Daddy told me that she needs a bone marrow from a baby. But i’m no longer  baby. I can’t help her.”

I was shocked. This little boy talks to me as if he knows everything on Earth. Ang bibo ng batang to I thought. Does he understand what he says?

“I’m sorry to hear that,”

“Don’t be Sir. My dad told me that if we pray harder, surely Jesus will hear us. How about you sir, what happened to your daughter?” bibong sabi pa rin ng bata.

If only Anaiah will survive this, she’ll be as smart as him..

Kidney ailment. She needs a kidney. But she’s too young for the operation. She’s just six months old.”

Mukhang napaisip naman ang bata sa sinabi niya. Siya naman nagpatuloy sa paghingi ng milagro sa langit.

“How many kidneys do we have sir?” tanong nito sa kaniya.

“Two.”

“Both of her kidneys are affected?

“Yes.”

“I can donate mine”

My eyes widened. I was again shocked and surprised. This boy really talks like an adult but still he doesn’t really know what he says.

Nginitian ko siya. “It’s not as easy as what you think. You’re still young, you don’t need to help me.” Ginulo ko ang buhok ng bata. “Go back to your dad. Maybe he is now worried about you.”

“I’m hurt to see daddy crying so I left him in the chapel. He loves my mom so much!” kwento pa rin ng bata. “I forgot, my name is Arhel sir. You?”

“Alfred”

“Ah, and you’re baby?”

“Anaiah.”

“She has a nice name. Sir, what if I donate my kidney to Anaiah and in return she’ll give my mom a bone marrow. What do you think?” manghang sabi sa akin ng bata. Nangungusap ang mga mata niya na parang sinasabi sa akin na napakabibo niya talagang bata.

Namangha na naman ako sa bata. How could this child think like this? Kung magsalita ang bata parang ganon lang kadali ang lahat.

Then the ICU’s door opened. Lumabas doon ang doctor at lumapit sa akin. Alam kong bad news ang sasabihin niya sa akin. God, I can’t bear...

“Mr. Imperial, your child. Only the operation could save her and we have to do it now!”

“But---“
