Kayleigh's POV

.

I stumbled through the door, holding at least 6 heavy shopping bags full of Vic's new clothes. My arms were sore, and my back felt broken, and not to mention the fact that I was so hungry I could eat a whole elephant, plus dessert. I hadn't eaten since breakfast, and it was close to what I thought was midday.

The sun wasn't shining through the dark clouds that thickened the sky; rain fell upon the roof-top giving the feeling of being in a rainforest. Thunder clapped through the woods from behind, bouncing off the walls of the small cabin. Winter was almost over, but the weather hadn't changed. Excluding the snow that had stopped a few days ago. It was still cold, but I didn’t mind; Not at all.

I went shopping alone, so I hadn’t seen Vic since last night. I left a note for him, but he probably just stayed in his room sleeping.  I didn’t understand why he was so pissed off about Janice being there. I thought he would have taken it a lot lighter than that. She hasn’t done anything for him to hate her, and even though she’s an alcoholic, she wasn’t when they first met. I’m not defending her, it’s just he hates the part of her I love- or loved.

I put the shopping bags down on the couch; the blanket both Vic and I were snugged into last night was folded and laying on the arm rest. The movies that sat on the coffee table were put away, along with the hot chocolate mugs I left there to wash after I got back. Not to mention the room smelt like vanilla and caramel. Which was odd.

“Vic? Are you up?” I asked in a louder-than-inside-voice voice. I looked around a bit, not sure where he might be. And I definitely knew that it wasn’t Janice that cleaned up, because a) She is probably in some random guy’s bed, in the middle of nowhere and b) there is a 99.99% chance that she is sleeping off one of her legendary hangovers. So I didn’t count on her being here.

“Victor, if you don’t get your ass out here I will take your clothing back to the shop and you’ll have to wear dirty underwear for the rest of your life!” I yelled, but still silence.

I wasn’t sure why it was silent, but then I heard the floor boards creak from behind me before I could figure out why. A small smirk appeared on my face, and tried to contain my laughter by holding my hand over my mouth. A pair of bony arms wrapped around me, squeezing me slightly, giving off comforting warmth.
