"Nurse [y/l/n]!" A lady by the large metal doors into the sick bay called out for you. You hastened towards her through the crowd of nurses, doctors and patients and steadied your breathing before approaching her.

"Yes Ms Churchill?" You said and straightened your outfit. She scanned you from bottom to top then raised an eyebrow.

"A new soldier had been admitted yesterday. He will be under your care," She told and you nodded your head, "Remember the rules [y/l/n]."

"Y-Yes ma'am," You mumbled and watched her walk away from you. You looked to the ground, hoping it wasn't a soldier who was in a really devastating condition. Even though you're supposed to be immune to such sights when being a war nurse but it still hurts you on the inside.

You pushed the sick bay doors open and stepped inside. You walked towards the end of the room, after a nurse informed you where the new soldier is laying.

You found bed 12B then took a deep breath. You held the curtain hems in your fists then with a swift motion, pulled them back to open them.

You stared at the soldier, who was sleeping peacefully. He had a cast around his right hand and left leg. There was a bandage around his head. He had bruises and scars speckled across his face, neck and arms.

You checked the report hanging at the end of the bed and observed his body as you read the according diagnosis. You placed the clipboard back on its hook then sighed. He was sleeping, you couldn't talk or do anything to him out of fear of waking him up.

"A-Are you my nurse?" You heard a hoarse voice ask and you turned to look at the injured soldier.

"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" You bit your lip sadly and he cleared his throat.

"Not at a-all. I wasn't asleep, I'm j-just tired," He explained then sighed, "Could I have some water please?"

You nodded and went over to the jug of water and poured him a glass. You helped him sit up then gave him the glass.

"You know you're the first soldier I've taken care of who has these many abrasions," You shared and he smiled softly.

"I tripped on a rock and twisted my ankle, I cut my face and arms on that. Then another time I fell back after an explosion and injured my arm," He explained and you frowned.

"Well you're in safe hands now. All you have to do is rest, uh..." You glanced to the clipboard report to find his name and-

"Robbie Turner," He answered and you smiled.

"Mr Turner, it's time for a nap," You told and tucked him into the sheets. You asked him if he was comfortable and he nodded his head slightly.

He shut his eyes and took a deep breath. You nodded then walked out of the enclosed area and covered it with the curtains once again.

4 days later...

"Where on earth is she?! [y/l/n]!" The head nurse, Ms Churchill, yelled at the top of her lungs and she frantically looked around for you.

She peeked into the curtained bed areas one by one then walked to the end of the sick bay.

You laughed at a joke he told you as you refreshed the bandage around his head. "Then what did the man say?" You asked and Robbie smiled brightly.

"Well he looked to his left then to his right and said, 'I just got rid of five pounds!'," He continued and you giggled. The joke was quite difficult to explain since it had a back story but you loved hearing Robbie talk. He spoke with such passion and it made you feel just as passionate.

"Do you have an admirer Mr Turner?" You asked and bit your lip.

"Oh no in fact. Why do you ask?"

"No reason, I wondered if a young woman would be quite worried about you-"

"I have no woman to care for me and worry about me... not yet at least," He looked up to the ceiling after you set his head back on the pillow. You walked over to the side table drawer and took out a bowl and towel. You filled the bowl with cold water and soaked the towel in it.

"What would you want in a woman?"

"A... warm heart, someone who I'd love unconditionally and someone who would always be there for me," He started pondering.

"What about a woman who-"

"[y/l/n]!" A voice scolded loudly and you jerked in fright. You turned around to find the head nurse standing with her hands on his hips while glaring at you with anger.

"Report to my office immediately!"

You looked to Robbie with concern after she left your presence. He held your hand and squeezed it slightly.

"I think I've done something wrong Robbie..." You muttered and he smiled sympathetically.

"It'll be alright, just make sure you come back to me [y/n]," He requested and you nodded your head, before walking towards the office.

You couldn't think of a reason why Ms Churchill would he furious with you. You have been spending a lot of time with Mr Turner, though you've been taking care of him. You haven't approached him in any inappropriate way, you're sure of that.

All in all, you'd convince her that your devotion to him is actually speeding his recovery... and it is the whole truth.

Robbie wouldn't be doing so well if you hadn't been appointed to be his nurse. You're so happy that you met him. Other than being a lovely person, you're looking forward to spending time with him after his wounds heal.
