Senseless chatter.

~  ~  ~  ~  ~

You hugged your body as the wind threatened to blow the jacket wrapped around you away. You shut your eyes tightly to somehow block out the cold. You don't have much of a tolerance for the winter.

You sat on a bus stop bench waiting for the bus into the city to visit a friend for the day. You didn't anticipate the sudden presence of chill in the air-

"Would you like an extra jacket?"

You opened your eyes suddenly and found a man standing in front of you with a soft smile on his face. You shook your head quickly and politely refused to accept a jacket from him.

The man sat beside you at the other end of the bench, minding his own business and-

"The weather's acting up today," He commented and you didn't respond as first but when you noticed him looking at you, you gave him a forceful smile.

"Where are you off to?" He asked and you rolled your eyes.

"I'm sorry do I know you?" You snapped at him unexpectedly, making him raise his eyebrows in surprise.

"I apologise about that Miss..."

"[y/n]," You stated hesitantly and he nodded his head.

"I won't talk to you anymore. I'm just... Waiting for my bus," He replied with a hint of sadness then placed his hands on his lap and looked up to the gloomy, grey sky.

You hit your lip then frowned. You felt uncomfortable about reacting in such a harsh way towards him. You didn't want to be rude but you didn't want to socialise either. You didn't know this person... And you didn't want to find out anything about him.

You sighed then adjusted your sitting position to turning towards him. "Sorry I'm just having a bad day. I didn't mean anything personal by my rudeness," You apologised and watched the man intently.

It was then that you realised that under those sunglasses he had a glowing smile and a warm aura. You found him rather good looking...

"That's alright I shouldn't have been so upfront," He stuck his hand out, "I'm James."

You stared at it for a moment then shook it with a smile on your lips, "Where are you from?"

"Scotland."

"Oh wow, I recognised the accent but I wasn't completely sure," You expressed and he chuckled.

"A lot of people can't usually understand what I'm saying but I don't think you face that problem," He said and you shook your head, "That's good! It makes waiting for the bus much easier."

*****

An hour later...

"Kidney beans or baked beans," You asked and he laughed.

"How am I supposed to choose between that?" James commented and you smirked, "Um... Well baked beans, because they're saucy. There, I don't know what else to say."

You giggled then licked your lips, "Okay your turn."

"Hmm... Looks or intellect?"

"What do you mean?"

"Like in a person," He added and you raised an eyebrow.

"A guy?"

"Um no in g-general, anyone," He glanced to the ground and you squinted your eyes out of thinking of an answer.

"Well... I think both matter to me, it depends on the person," You replied, "You can't help but judge someone by looks because that's the first impressions you get of them. But then their personality starts to kick in and maybe change a negative view positive or add more to the positive."

He smiled, "Do you think I'm-"

"I knew you were leading me to that," You shook your head then looked to him with hesitance.

He furrowed his eyebrows and flatly said, "Car accident." You turned to him with confusion.

"I was in one a month ago with a truck. I... I injured my legs and I've been going to therapy ever since. It's where I'm going today, this is my third last session," James replied and you watched him with despair.

"Oh James I... I'm so sorry you had to go through that," You said and placed a hand on his lightly.

HONK! HONK!

You turned your attention to the bus that was approaching your stop. James held the light pile next the bench and struggled to stand up. You were about to help him but he made it up on his own.

He looked back to you and smiled, "Well I'll see you around then." He limped towards the curb of the road and you frowned. The poor guy still couldn't walk properly even though he's almost done with his therapy.

You bit the inside of your cheek and before he boarded the bus you ran towards him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"James you... You are good looking and you're a wonderful person to be friends with," You said in a rush and he smiled.

"Y-You too [y/n]..." He smiled brightly then stepped onto the bus. The doors were about to close she you put your hands over it.

"Wait!" You exclaimed, "What's your last name?"

He smiled softly and mumbled, "McAvoy."

You nodded your head then stepped away and watched the bus drive ahead and take  right turn, disappearing along the stretch of road.

"McAvoy..." You mumbled then turned around when you heard another bus driving towards the stop. At least you and a lead, you could find James again.
