Once the brothers had left the diner, Kara realised she had no idea what to do. No idea where to go.
She thought back to what had happened in the diner.
After she had told them about her and her mother, they had not been able to meet her eye.
Dean especially.
She mentally kicked herself. How on earth had she allowed herself to fall for this? This cruel illusion in which she could be happy with her father. He didn't know her. He didn't care.
Kara walked down the main street with her head hanging low. Trying to calm her mind as a cyclone of thoughts rushed through it. Focusing on each step as her feet fell on the pavement in a repetitive cycle.
A boring cycle.
Just like her life in Cape Girardeau.
Nothing ever happened here. Each day was the same. A bleak cycle of school, homework, sleep, and food. Days turned into weeks. Weeks into months. Months into years.
Friday's were the exception. When her mother would leave town for the weekend and she would raid Cassie's beer fridge. Have a few drinks. Not one of her brightest moments, but that was why noone knew.
Noone knew what she did. And noone knew why.
Kara was so preoccupied with the thoughts running through her head, she didn't realise where she was walking.
Bam!
"Son of a bitch! I'm so sorry."
"Oh my god. I'm sorry, I wasn't--"
The two teens stopped apologising as they realised who they had crashed into.
"You really shouldn't swear, you know."
Jack looked to his left, and his right. Took in all of his surrounds. He felt his face heat up as he tried to avoid Kara's intimidating gaze. He could feel her eyes boring into him with laser precision.
Mustering up the courage to look her in the eyes, he realised there was a faint goldish ring where her iris met her pupil. A faint goldish ring just like the one he'd seen in his eyes when--
"Bad habit," he said interrupting his line of thought before it took a trip down memory lane. That was not what he needed. Not here. Not now. Not ever.
"I find that hard to believe."
"Fine," Jack sighed in defeat. "It's not a bad habit. It's just something I picked up from- you know what, why am I even trying to explain myself to you?"
Kara took a quick step back at Jack's sudden outburst of courage.
"Maybe because--"
"No. I have met you only once before, and from what I recall, you left in an extremely rude manner. You didn't even say goodbye."
"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I panicked."
Jack tried to search Kara's face for a clue as to whether she was telling the truth or not. Any small hint as to what was going on inside her head would be enough.
Jack thought back to the diner. Was there be a reason why she would panic? Or was this just another ruse to get away from him?
..."Hang on, the Jack Kline? As in 'son of Kelly Kline and Lucifer' Jack Kline?"
"Wait, how do yo--"...
Of course. Jack thought. If there was a slight chance Kara was not infact human then what he had been about to ask would surely have rattled her.
Jack was overwhelmed by a wave of curiosity, but there was no way he could find out more about Kara while standing on the side of the street.
He stood up tall and proud, and looked Kara in the eyes.
"I feel like we got off on the wrong foot. Any chance you may want to grab an ice-cream?"
Kara observed Jack like a prison guard would observe their prisoners. Unsure as to whether there were good intentions behind the motive, or just malice and persona gain.
With a smile, Kara gave in.
"Sure. What's there to lose?"
