"Sam, help me carry the body," John grunted, Sam hesitantly went to take a step towards the decapitated corpse when Dean stepped in front.

"I've got it, dad," Dean said. John eyed him before giving a gruff exhale and allowing Dean to grab the legs while he grabbed the shoulders. Together they tossed the body into the ditch while Sam grabbed the nearby canister of holy oil and doused the body with it before throwing a match down. The body caught fire and all three stared down with haunted and entranced eyes. John was the first to snap out of the daze as he let out another grunt and walked back to the Impala.

"So," Sam said, cutting into the silence once they were all piled back into the Impala and on the road again, "Where to next."

"You two aren't going anywhere this time," John said

"What," Dean asked.

"I caught a big lead on the yellow-eyed demon out west in Utah."

"Great," Dean said, "We'll come with."

"No," John said, "You two are going to stay at Bobby's until I get back."

"Are you serious," Dean asked angrily, "The first big lead on the thing that killed mom in who knows how long and you're going to go it alone?"

"Yes Dean I am," John shot back.

"But dad-"

"This isn't up for discussion Dean now drop it," John raised his voice making Sam and Dean visibly flinch on instinct.

"Fine," Dean said hoarsely, "Bobby's it is." The rest of the drive was silent as Dean looked out the window and Sam fiddled with the half-torn strip of leather on the back of Dean's seat.

Nine and a half hours later they arrived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Singer's Salvage Yard sign helping to brighten the boy's spirits. They always loved staying at Bobby's. It may not be their home but to them, it was as close as they were ever gonna get.

"Hey John, good to see ya," Bobby Singer greeted as he appeared from around the corner where the boys knew the garage was. "Boys."

"Hi Bobby," John said in return, "Sorry to dump the boys on you like this but I really got to take up this trail before it goes cold. You know how it is."

"Yeah, I understand ya. Don't be a stranger John," Bobby said as a farewell as he clapped John on the back.

"Thank you, Bobby," John said, reciprocating the gesture. "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone you two. Watch each other's backs and I'll be back for you as soon as I can."

With that, John hopped back in the car and drove off.

It took two weeks before the boys and Bobby heard from John again. Even then it was just a short call and only to say that he wouldn't be back for another few weeks at best.

It was halfway through the second week when Dean stumbled upon the town cemetery. When he first found himself at the gates of the cemetery Dean was weary and for good reason seeing as his line of work meant he saw more of the dead then he would have liked. But the next time Dean caught himself walking past the cemetery on the way into town he stopped to walk through it for a minute or two before continuing on his way.
