The next morning Merlin awoke to find himself not in his bed but instead on the scrappy cot he kept for Gwaine when he was too drunk to make it back home on his own.

"What the-"

"Well you're a late sleeper," A bored voice commented from above Merlin. Merlin looked up to see the blonde man, R, from the night before.

"Oh you," Merlin mumbled sleepily, finally remembering the events from the night before.

"Don't get too excited," R laughed.

"Trust me, I'm not," Merlin snarked back.

"Are you always like this in the morning or is it just my presence that's got you so moody," R asked teasingly.

Merlin rubbed his eyes grumpily while muttering half intelligible profanities and empty threats.

"Oo, I'm quivering in my boots," R quipped upon hearing Merlin sleepy threats.

"Piss off," Was Merlin's witty response.

Before their banter could go on there was a loud knock at the door.

"Merlin!" Gwaine's voice could be heard from the other side of the door. "Are you up?"

Merlin stormed up to the door and flung it open. "If I hadn't been before I am now."

"Great, you are up," Gwaine said, smiling at his tired looking friend.

"Who's this?" Gwaine asked, pointing to R as he walked past Merlin in the entryway and entering the small house.

"Oh, this is R," Merlin said, "He's just passing through."

"I see," Gwaine said before moving on to the pantry. Suddenly Gwaine spun back as if doing a double take. "What did you say your name was?"

"R?" R replied hesitantly.

"Where did you say you came from," Gwaine asked.

"I didn't," R said at the same time Merlin said, "One of the outlying villages, just outside Camelot's border."

R gave Merlin a disapproving look that he returned with a sheepish grin.

"Merlin," Gwaine spoke suddenly, "Can I speak with you for one second?"

"Uh, sure," Merlin said, following his friend out to the front steps of the house.

"What is it, Gwaine," Merlin asked worriedly.

"We did it," Gwaine laughed, "We found out lost prince!"

"What?"

"Oh come on, Merlin, he's perfect," Gwaine gestured to R standing inside. "He's the right age, has the looks, and he's from far enough away that no one would know him here."

"R," Merlin said incredulously, "As Prince Arthur." Merlin laughed while Gwaine gave him a glare.

"I'm serious," Gwaine insisted, "Think about it. We teach R here about young Arthur, get him to convince the king that he's the lost prince and boom, we're rich."

"I don't know," Merlin said, "R would never agree to something like this."

"Dang it," Gwaine growled, "If only there was some way to convince R that he wasn't deceiving the king."
