Recap:
Just when they thought Gaius had asked all of his questions Gaius broke the silence with one last question.
"How did you escape the fire that night?"
The questioned made everyone in the room freeze. They had forgotten to prepare for that question.

Hesitantly R started to answer though he seemed to be in some sort of memory trance as if he were viewing a memory at that very moment, "The fire... I woke up because of the shouts. I tried to escape my room but there must have been some fallen debris blocking it from the other side because it wouldn't open."
Every noise in the room suddenly seemed hushed as they listened to R speak.
"I thought someone might come for me but no one did. The... the fire made its way to my room, the ceiling fell... I felt so scared, so sure I was going to die."
When R didn't continue Gaius asked him, "Then how did you end up escaping."
"I- I- That part is hazy to me," R confessed. "I remember a boy, no not a boy. I don't know..."
"I remember his blue eyes, or were they golden?" R now looked just as confused as the rest of the room. That is except for Merlin who now looked ghostly with an unreadable expression on his face.
"I think, no..."
"You think what," Gaius asked tentatively.
"I think he might have been a druid," R said, still in his trance like state, unseeing and dreamlike.
"A druid?" Gaius said with surprise. "The boy?"
"Yes," R said, "The memories are glossed over almost as if they've been removed but that's the only explanation. It was how the boy got through the debris and how he got through the fire to my room when none of the guards could."
"Then what happened," Gwaine asked with a scrunched brow.
"He lead me out of the castle to the edge of the woods. There were voices, footsteps... they were getting closer. I think they frightened him."
"His eyes turned gold and he started speaking really weird, the next thing I knew I was being found by that knight outside the kingdom's border with no memory," R finished.
The room stayed silent for a long, pregnant minute until Gaius finally spoke up. "Well you answered all of the questions so I guess I can get you an audience with the king."
The boys rejoiced as Gaius stood and exited the room.
"I did it," R said excitedly.
"Yeah you did," Gwaine smirked. "You did great, right Merlin?"
Merlin stayed silent and unmoving.
"Merlin?" R said with concern, "Are you alright?"
"I uh-" Merlin suddenly resembled a spooked kitten, "Gwaine, can I talk with you for a moment?"
"Uh yeah, sure," Gwaine said hesitantly. "You did great R," Gwaine said one last time before following Merlin into his old bedroom which Gaius had since converted into a spare bedroom.
