Soul poetry. Everyone had it. Written on the wrists of everyone in the world was a single line of scrawled writing. Writing of the first words your soulmate would ever say.

Dean didn't care too much for his soul poetry. Everyone had nice, sweet sayings like "Whoa, you're beautiful," or even a simple "Nice to meet you."

All Dean had been stuck with was the word, "YOU."

It was in all caps which was unusual but not unheard of. Dean liked to imagine how excited his soulmate must have to be in order to have the words splayed in all caps.

Yes, it was an intriguing idea but Dean wasn't crazy about it like everyone else seemed to be. He had a good life and didn't feel like he needed someone else to complete him. He could wait and if they never showed up, so be it.

Castiel was never one to defer from the status quo. He mostly kept to himself and rarely opposed rules. He always thought that things happened for a reason. This, however, all changed when he woke up on his eighteenth birthday to the words, "Are you kidding, I'd rather give up my soulmate than pie."

Needless to say, Castiel was not very happy with these words etched into his skin for everyone to see. His brother, Gabriel, had laughed his head off after seeing the words. Whoever his soulmate was apparently liked pie more than Castiel. And if Castiel ever did meet them he would wring their neck for making him wear that godforsaken phrase on his wrist.

~~~
Castiel was sitting at a small window seat of the local coffee shop doing his Calculus homework when the bell chimed, signaling a new customer had entered the cafe.
"Alright then," A voice sounded from the doorway. Castiel paid little to no attention, intent on finishing his homework before Gabriel came. "Would you rather give up the car or pie?"
"Are you kidding, I'd rather give up my soulmate than pie."
Castiel jerked suddenly, his pen leaving a thin, dark line across Castiel's paper. Castiel's head whipped up, trying to catch a glimpse of his god awful soulmate.
There were two people standing in the doorway of the shop. One was a tall, shaggy-haired kid with a boyish grin. No, Castiel thought, definitely not his soulmate.
Then Castiel's eyes fell upon the second boy and Castiel instantly felt the tug. The one that said, this is it, this is the person you've been waiting for.
For a moment, Castiel was consumed by the whirlwind of emotions that came with first meeting your soulmate. Then,  Castiel's mind caught up with him and he realized... this motherfucker.
He made me have THAT imprinted on my wrist.
Alright, Castiel thought, time to wring my soulmate's neck for what he did to me.
Castiel pushed his chair back so violently that it went screeching backward before it clattered to the ground. The sound drawing the attention of the pair standing in the doorway along with the rest of the occupants in the cafe.
With a determination blazing in his eyes Castiel stormed up to his soulmate, waving an angry finger in front of his face, "YOU!"
Castiel's soulmate looks utterly perplexed for a moment before his eyes go wide with realization. "Not exactly how I imagined it being said but ok."
"You- You made me have that printed on my arm for the rest of eternity," Castiel hollered at the boy, fists shaking with rage.
"What can I say, I like my pie," The boy grinned cheekily.
Castiel wanted to protest more but his anger deflated at the sight of the boy's award-winning smile. Instead of yelling some more Castiel opted to just let out an exasperated huff and stormed back to his table.
Castiel didn't wait to see what his soulmate would do next, he just righted his chair and plopped back down in his seat, and got back to the calculus worksheet he still needed to finish.
"Stupid, stupid soulmate," Castiel muttered to himself as he worked through the next problem on the sheet. Castiel couldn't tell how long it had been when the boy, his soulmate, gingerly took the seat across from him.
"So," The boy said sheepishly, breaking the silence between them, "You're my soulmate then."
"It appears so," Castiel replied tersely.
"I'm- uh... Dean... by the way," The boy said, extending his hand out for Castiel to shake.
Castiel looked up slowly and stared at the hand for a moment before meeting the boy, Dean's, gaze. Dean gulped, ready to drop his hand back in his lap when Castiel reached out and took Dean's hand in his. The sparks were immediate but unlike a normal shock, you would get from static electricity these sparks were warm and pleasant.
The two boys dropped their hands abruptly after feeling the shock and averted their gazes.
"Castiel," Castiel spoke finally.
"What?"
"My name, it's Castiel."
"Well,  Cas," Dean said with a slight curve in his lips, "I may not know you too well yet but I can safely say, pie... has nothing on you."
Castiel flushed a bright red, ducking his head to prevent Dean from seeing it but it was too late. Dean let out a pleasant laugh that filled Castiel's chest.
The introductions might have been a bit rocky to start but that was ok. It was ok because that meant that Castiel could be right here, in this moment with Dean and he wouldn't have it any other way.
