A/N: Another great request by another lovely reader! (Apologies for taking so long to write this) Totally love Professor McGonagall, what a badass! I think she's just such a great character and I always enjoy writing about HP : )

Harry tossed anxiously in his bed. It had been three long hours since the rest of his roommates had dropped off to sleep and yet, no matter how much his body wished him to, he couldn't fall asleep. His eyes would begin to droop only for them to snap back open the second another wave of thunder rolled over Hogwarts.

Gritting his teeth, Harry sat up and flung his covers off of him. Back at home - well as much as you could call living with the Dursleys home - Harry was never bothered by night storms too much. His room below the stairs had always been pretty sound resistant and when he did finally move to the upstairs bedroom he had Dudley's snores in the next room over to worry about.

Here at Hogwarts though the sounds of thunder and the cracks of lightning seemed to reverberate off every wall. The open layout and high ceilings meant that every sound was amplified and to Harry's own ears, the storm tonight was deafening.

Harry sighed. Across the room he could see where Ron lay in his bed, the steady rise and fall of his chest signaling that the storm was not impacting his sleep whatsoever. Harry wasn't exactly surprised by this though, his best friend could sleep through anything. One time George and Fred had drawn a whole meadow of flowers along his arms with sharpie while he slept. It wasn't until the 147th daisy that Ron finally stirred.

The burrow had been havoc that day and the fond memory made Harry smile. Then, another round of thunder echoed throughout the room and Harry suppressed a shiver. He frowned. If he couldn't sleep during the storm then maybe he could get a head start on his potions essay while he waited for it to die down.

Harry climbed out of bed, grabbing his supplies as he made his way down to the Gryffindor common room. Like always, the fireplace was still roaring with life, providing Harry with plenty of light to see and do his work.

He did a quick sweep of the room. There was only one person left in the common room as it was the middle of the night and they were already fast asleep, slung over one of the room's armchairs near the fire. Harry smiled as he recognized who it was. It was his good friend Hermione Granger.

Shaking his head, Harry walked over to his friend's sleeping form. She had her legs hanging loosely over one of the chair arms and her face was laying on the other arm, a piece of parchment stuck to her cheek. Harry rolled his eyes as carefully pulled the paper out from under her and laid it on the coffee table. Then, he grabbed a blanket from a basket beside the couch and dropped it over her.

Satisfied with his work, Harry shot Hermione one last fond smile before making his way over to a desk in the corner of the room and laying out his things: two pieces of parchment, an ink bottle and feather, and his standard potions book.

After what seemed like another couple hours Harry checked the time. He groaned as he saw only thirty minutes had passed. Harry looked down at the two sentences he had written down in that time and groaned again. He stood, having had enough of this homework he decided that maybe a quick trip down to the kitchens for a warm glass of milk might help to ease his mind.

Harry exited the common room through the porthole. The fat lady stirred for a moment, quietly cursing him for waking her up so late before falling back to sleep again. Harry quickly decided that he preferred her singing to whatever atrocious sounds she was making right now, she was almost as bad as Dudley was.

He wandered down the corridors, trying to go slow so that he didn't trip and fall in the dark. Harry silently cursed himself for not bringing his wand or his invisibility cloak. He should have thought of that before leaving. If anyone were to find him out of bed at night he would have no protection of any kind.
