Recap:

Merlin hesitated before nodding his ok. Morgana sighed with relief before entering the house, closing the door behind her.

"Go away, Merlin," Arthur said not even turning to see if it was really him who entered.

"Arthur?" Morgana whispered tentatively. "Is that really you?"

"Lady Morgana," Arthur spun around. "I'm sorry I thought you were Merlin."

"You've grown so much," Morgana said softly.

"I'm sorry my lady but I'm not him," Arthur said apologetically. "I don't know what Merlin told you to convince you I'm him but...."

"I used to be taller than you when we were younger, do you remember?" Morgana laughed with tears in her eyes.

"Morgana," Arthur said softly, "I'm not-"

"How old are you?"

"Twenty-two but-"

"Favorite color?"

"Red," Arthur said, not bothering to try and say anything more knowing that he would only be cut off again.

"What kind of red," Morgana asked him.

"What?" Arthur said. When Morgana stayed silent he huffed but answered. "The color of red of when the sun hits the horizon but-"

"But only during sunrise because that red is distinctly different from the red of sunset which has more of a purple hue," Morgana finished for him.

"How did you know that," Arthur asked.

"Because you told me," Morgana was practically weeping now. "Arthur please remember, remember me."

"I'm not Arthur. My name is R," Arthur argued.

Morgana choked out a sob and Arthur grew worried that he had said something wrong.

"What, what did I say," Arthur asked.

"Not R, but Ar," Morgana corrected. "Short for Arthur. I couldn't say your full name when we were younger so that's what I called you."

"I- I don't remember," Arthur confessed sadly, "I'm sorry."

Arthur grabbed his now packed bags and made his way toward the front door.

"I was five," Morgana said making Arthur stop in his tracks. "It was maybe a week before the fire happened. Father had told me that I was no longer allowed to play with the children in the lower town. Do you remember what you told me?"

When Arthur didn't say anything Morgana sighed but she wouldn't give up.

"You told me-"

"I told you," Arthur spoke for her making Morgana's eyes snap up. "I told you that though you were no longer able to see your friends in the lower town I would always be there for you. Whenever or wherever we might be we would always be a team, you and me forever and forever."

"Yes," Morgana whispered, the tears now streaming down her face. Arthur's eyes also gathered with tears now.

"Morgana?"

"Arthur?"

The two siblings ran to one another and engaged in a tight, long overdue embrace.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Arthur whispered into his little sister's ear as he stroked her hair.

"It's ok," Morgana choked out, "It's ok, you're here now."

The two talked a little longer before they decided they should probably take this to the king for him to decide what to do now that Arthur was home. Arthur didn't have all of his memories yet but he was getting there and he remembered enough to know that he really was the lost Prince Arthur of Camelot.

It didn't take long to have an audience with king and it took even shorter for them to convince Uther he really was Prince Arthur.

"Welcome home, Sire," Merlin said to Arthur who had just been put in his new room in the palace. The whole kingdom now knew that Prince Arthur was home and everyone was in a flurry of bustling to prepare for a coming home celebration.

"Merlin," Arthur said, surprised to see the young brunette in his room.

"I've just come to say goodbye," Merlin said as he walked further into the room and up to Arthur.

"Goodbye?"

"Yes," Merlin confirmed, "I just wanted to do one last thing before I left."

"What are you-" Merlin touched his palm to Arthur's forehead. Suddenly Arthur was hit with a flood of lost memories now returned.

"You!" Arthur said, he remembered everything. His old life, that night, and Merlin. Merlin was the Druid boy who saved him from the fire.

"Please don't have me executed," Merlin put his hands up as if to protect him from a blow that never came.

"Executed?" Arthur said in confusion.

"Yes," Merlin said, "I know having magic is illegal. Just give me half a day to leave Camelot and you'll never have to see me again."

"Merlin," Arthur started, "You saved my life that night. I would never have you executed."

"You might now but Uther would," Merlin countered.

"I won't let him," Arthur said, "Just please stay. Don't leave Camelot."

"I have to," Merlin argued, "If Uther ever found out about me. About you keeping my secret. He might execute us both."

"I don't care," Arthur stated firmly. "You could become my manservant, that way I could keep you protected and no one would suspect a thing!"

"I don't know Arthur," Merlin said hesitantly.

"Please," Arthur said.

"Why," Merlin asked. "Why do you want me to stay so bad?"

"Because," Arthur said sheepishly, "There's something about you Merlin, something I can't put my finger on. Besides, I could use a friend if I'm to take up my duty as Camelot's prince."

"Alright," Merlin surrendered, "I'll stay, for you."

"Thank you," Arthur said.

And so they became the Prince and future king and his manservant and warlock. The strongest team Camelot had ever known. When Arthur became king they together were able to reunite the land of Albion.

And so the legend ends, or begins, depending on how you want to look at it.

The great King Arthur Pendragon and the greatest warlock this world has ever known, Merlin Emrys. Two sides of the same coin, by one another's side forever and ever.
